Role overview

Good Apple is hiring a Media Planner to work from New York, NY. This position reports into the Media Supervisor and/or AMD and may oversee Assistant Media Planners depending on the account setup. The role sits at the center of media planning, campaign operations, partner management, and reporting, with a strong focus on maintaining campaign quality and improving performance against client objectives.

The Media Planner will collaborate closely with media and analytics teams, support strategic planning across channels, and help strengthen relationships with publishing and agency partners. The position also includes training and guiding Assistant Media Planners, contributing to media innovation, and ensuring accurate execution across all campaign deliverables.

Media strategy and plan development

  • Translate the strategy set by the Supervisor or AMD into actionable media plans while adding strategic input where useful.
  • Research the media landscape, target audience, and competition using internal tools such as Kantar, Comscore, and eMarketer.
  • Lead internal brainstorms across channels to shape early ideas and build RFP target lists.
  • Draft RFPs and assess partner proposals using both quantitative and qualitative criteria.
  • Coordinate with programmatic, search, and social teams to build recommendation decks and clearly defend planning choices.
  • Help create media plan presentations, participate in internal review cycles, and incorporate feedback.
  • Present relevant sections of the plan to clients and revise the plan based on client input.

Plan management and execution

  • Own day-to-day media plan management, with support from the Senior Planner, to keep monthly budgets on track and make adjustments as needed.
  • Work with channel leads to manage spend across channels and maintain effective performance.
  • Lead billing workflows by confirming billable amounts with publishers, completing accounting sheets accurately, and keeping all stakeholders informed of QA-approved data.
  • Oversee Assistant Media Planners on creative management, insertion orders, brand safety, and accounting tasks.
  • Run quality assurance checks on tracking and creative units to catch and resolve issues.
  • Compile post-launch documentation such as screenshots, links, and placement details as proof of delivery for clients.
  • Input and maintain plans, track insertion orders, create creative specifications, and manage traffic sheets and creative assignments as required.
  • QA insertion orders created by Assistant Media Planners in internal systems to reserve inventory, verify plan accuracy, and confirm delivery according to process.

Partner management

  • Maintain strong partner relationships through timely communication and useful feedback.
  • Negotiate pricing using benchmarking tools such as SQAD, along with value adds and favorable contract terms like net payment and cancellation clauses.
  • Manage day-to-day partner communication to keep campaigns optimized and contracts fulfilled.
  • Support larger negotiations, including upfronts, client portfolio deals, and agency-wide agreements.
  • Meet regularly with existing and prospective partners to stay current on offerings and identify beta opportunities and early access ad products.
  • Share high-level plans, asset needs, and specifications with the creative agency.

Team leadership

  • Help design the onboarding plan for Assistant Media Planners and monitor progress with guidance from the Supervisor and AMD.
  • Train Assistant Media Planners on campaign execution workflows, including insertion orders, trafficking, pacing, plan actualization, accounting, and reporting.
  • Review their work to ensure complete accuracy.
  • Teach them how to use internal and third-party tools such as CRISP, DCM, Comscore, Kantar, and SQAD.
  • Explain the media planning process and involve them in tasks like RFP deployment, proposal organization, and audience or industry research.
  • Coach team members through difficult partner situations and encourage ownership when mistakes happen.
  • Hold regular weekly check-ins to review progress and professional development needs.
  • Keep the Supervisor or AMD updated on personal progress and the progress of the Assistant Media Planners, including wins, risks, and workflow improvement ideas.

Reporting and analysis

  • Maintain the asset library and create campaign launch decks for assigned clients.
  • Assess campaign performance by writing mid-campaign and post-campaign reports based on the cadence agreed with the client.
  • Pull data from platforms and partners such as DCM, CRISP, Crossix, and other vendor sources.
  • Work with channel teams to surface high-level insights and supporting evidence.
  • Write performance commentary that explains what happened, why it matters, and what actions will follow.
  • Present reporting to clients and respond to questions with clear campaign details.

Media innovation and additional expectations

  • Stay proactive in identifying new partners and tests worth exploring.
  • Contribute to internal and client-facing points of view and begin drafting POV content.
  • Bring strong time management, accuracy, problem-solving, and deadline discipline to the role.
