Role overview

The Keller Group is working with an acclaimed client in the Greater Phoenix, Arizona area to add a Media Relations Specialist to its high-performing Public Relations team. This position focuses on earned media strategy across local, regional, national, and industry outlets. The person in this role will help shape strong media coverage by identifying timely story angles, developing focused media lists, crafting compelling outreach, managing press release distribution, and driving consistent brand messaging that supports awareness and thought leadership.

Key responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with editors, reporters, and trade writers across local, regional, and national publications.
  • Build and refresh targeted media lists for multiple B2B and B2C brands.
  • Spot relevant news hooks and turn them into customized, high-value pitch ideas.
  • Design and run outreach efforts aimed at earning media coverage.
  • Write, refine, and distribute press releases, pitch correspondence, media advisories, and related support materials.
  • Handle distribution efforts to both trade and general-interest outlets through direct outreach and newswire services.
  • Follow up with journalists to pursue interviews, placements, and coverage opportunities.
  • Arrange media interviews, prep spokespeople, and organize logistics and briefing documents.
  • Track coverage, prepare reporting, and summarize campaign results.

Qualifications and experience

The ideal candidate holds a bachelor’s degree in Public Relations, Communications, Journalism, or a closely related field and brings at least 3 years of professional experience in public or media relations. A successful background securing placements at local, industry, and national levels is important. Candidates should already have some media contacts and be comfortable expanding those relationships. Strong writing and editing ability, along with solid AP Style knowledge, is required. Familiarity with media monitoring and reporting tools is also expected. The role requires someone who can thrive in a fast-moving environment and juggle several media initiatives at once.
