Media Relations Specialist

Role overview

Berman and Company is seeking a Media Relations Specialist to join its expanding public relations team in Arlington, Virginia. The ideal candidate brings strong news judgment, excellent writing ability, comfort managing several priorities simultaneously, and enthusiasm for advancing free-market policy work.

This position requires working on-site. Only candidates who are local to the area or prepared to relocate should apply.

Core responsibilities

• Build and maintain relationships with reporters, producers, and other media contacts through outreach and follow-up.
• Track current events closely to quickly identify and respond to fast-moving media opportunities.
• Create messaging frameworks and write press releases, statements, and related communication materials.
• Use a solid understanding of the media environment to guide pitch strategy with both creativity and judgment.
• Deliver communications support across multiple clients and issue areas.
• Handle additional communications work as needed, such as op-ed writing, research, and related assignments.

Required capabilities

• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to think strategically and approach work with an entrepreneurial mindset.
• Proven project management skills, including moving work from idea stage through completion.
• Prior experience pitching reporters and developing productive relationships with press contacts.

Preferred background

• Exposure to local, state, or federal policy topics.
• Experience working with nonprofit groups or subject-matter experts in the free-market policy space.
• Examples of polished public-facing writing, such as op-eds or similar materials.
