Role overview
As a customer-focused Merchandiser, you will take ownership of the commercial performance of a product category and guide a cross-functional team to deliver strong financial results. The role blends creativity with commercial analysis, requiring you to shape seasonal direction, collaborate with design on new trends and key product opportunities, and help define must-have styles each season.
Once the season is underway, you will review sales performance, spot growth potential, and put actions in place to strengthen business results. You will also oversee the full product journey across channels and regions, ensuring execution is aligned from planning through to market delivery.
Key responsibilities
- Build and implement category assortment strategies across e-commerce, stores, wholesale, and franchise channels to support growth.
- Track market movement and competitor activity to inform assortment choices and protect the brand’s position in gym apparel.
- Develop seasonal line plans for the relevant category, ensuring the assortment works seamlessly across channels.
- Work with planning teams on investment direction and style-level recommendations.
- Create, maintain, and manage seasonal assortment tools used for category management.
- Attend weekly fitting sessions and help steer style adoption and execution.
- Run weekly POD meetings to keep commercial plans aligned and delivery on track.
- Review in-season trading performance, highlighting opportunities, risks, and required actions for monthly GCR meetings.
- Lead the creation of go-to-market packs that communicate seasonal direction for marketing, stores, and the website.
- Act as a link between departments to keep communication clear and consistent across the business.
- Stay current on industry and product trends to help the brand remain relevant with Gen Z consumers.
Requirements
- Ability to build and manage product assortments that reflect customer demand and market direction.
- Proven experience working with planning, marketing, design, sourcing, and product development teams.
- Comfort handling several priorities at once while meeting deadlines in a fast-moving environment.
- Strong awareness of current trends and the competitive landscape.
- Clear understanding of customer preferences and buying behaviour.
- Ability to use sales data and market intelligence to improve product performance.
- Relevant retail experience in apparel buying or merchandising at this level.
- This is a hybrid position based partly in the New York City office.
- Candidates must be based locally or be willing to relocate.

Compensation and benefits
The anticipated salary for this role is between $90,000 and $105,000 per year. The pay range may change based on relevant qualifications and internal equity.
