Midweight-Senior Motion Designer

Substance is a creative agency known for ambitious ideas and refined design execution. For more than two decades, the team has worked with major film studios, game publishers, streaming platforms, and entertainment brands to produce award-winning social and digital campaigns. With teams based in London, the US, and Buenos Aires, the agency blends global perspective with a collaborative, insight-led creative approach.

This opening is for a midweight to senior motion designer in Los Angeles, with a remote setup and the expectation of being close to the team and able to use Spaces offices. The role supports the US Producer and includes daily handovers from the UK team. Because work can arrive at different times each day, the position requires flexibility and the ability to start working with roughly an hour’s notice. Working hours are during the day.

What you will do

You will produce social-first creative content, ranging from polished static visuals to animated assets and energetic video edits. You will help generate ideas, develop concepts, and craft work that feels contemporary, cinematic, and relevant to culture and entertainment.

The role is well suited to a designer looking to advance their craft, build confidence, and expand their creative range in a fast-moving entertainment-focused environment.

Key experience and skills

• Strong design ability across digital and print, with a clear grasp of layout, typography, colour, and visual structure.
• Background in producing print-ready materials such as event collateral, signage, and promotional pieces.
• Confident use of Adobe Creative Suite, especially Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign.
• Working video-editing skills in Adobe Premiere Pro or a similar tool, with the ability to create engaging content for social and digital platforms.
• Basic to intermediate motion design capability in Adobe After Effects, including simple animation, titles, and social motion assets.
• Ability to create presentation decks in PowerPoint and Google Slides for client-facing use.
• Understanding of social platforms and how to tailor content for different audiences and channels.
• Comfort working within brand guidelines while contributing fresh ideas and maintaining strong attention to detail.
• Ability to juggle multiple projects, prioritise effectively, and deliver on deadlines in a busy agency setting.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills when collaborating with creatives, producers, and account teams.

Nice to have

• Experience in a creative agency or similarly fast-paced studio environment.
• Exposure to entertainment or media projects.
• Knowledge of artwork preparation for print production.
• Familiarity with AI-assisted creative tools that can support workflow efficiency.

What you bring

• Hands-on experience using After Effects.
• Working knowledge of Premiere Pro and Photoshop.
• Interest in 3D and VFX, along with a willingness to learn further.
• Strong animation fundamentals such as timing, easing, rhythm, and flow.
• Solid design principles covering typography, composition, hierarchy, and colour.
• Understanding of attention-grabbing, social-first creative.
