Job description

About the team

You’ll be part of the Council’s Community Group, which brings together services that support the city and its people, including Hamilton Pool, Parks and Recreation, Hamilton City Libraries, and the three major visitor attractions.

The Parks and Recreation team is responsible for maintaining and developing Hamilton’s park network so the community can enjoy a city that is attractive, connected, active, and responsive to local needs.

The opportunity

Hamilton City Council is seeking a Mower Operator to join the Parks and Recreation team. Reporting to the Sports Grounds and Facilities Team Leader, you will help keep turf areas across Hamilton parks well presented and maintained to a consistently high standard.

What you’ll be doing

  • Operating mowing equipment to maintain turf areas in parks to a high presentation standard.
  • Supporting the upkeep of sports grounds and related park surfaces.
  • Working both independently and as part of a team to complete assigned tasks.
  • Using basic machinery maintenance knowledge to help keep equipment in good working order.
  • Contributing to a safe, tidy, and well-kept parks environment for the community.

What we’re looking for

This position will suit someone who is energetic, physically willing to get involved, comfortable working as part of a team, and able to stay composed when things get busy.

Pay and benefits

The hourly rate is around NZD 28.96, with final pay depending on your skills and experience.

  • Opportunities to grow through professional development.
  • Two wellbeing days each year.
  • Free health insurance through Unimed, including hospital and surgery cover, plus discounted family membership rates.
  • Free annual health checks and flu vaccinations.
  • Option to buy extra annual leave.
  • Reimbursement for eye tests and glasses costs.
  • Discounted access to local businesses such as gyms, cafes, dentists, hairdressers, and more.

Application process

If you want to be considered, submit your application with your resume. If you’d like to add a cover letter, combine it with your resume in a single PDF, or include it in the message box to the hiring team.

Applications close on 25/06/2026, and shortlisting may begin as applications arrive.
