Job description

Role overview

Amazon’s Workplace Health & Safety (WHS) function is dedicated to protecting employee health and creating safe working conditions. The team focuses on proactive programs, practical standards, and day-to-day support that help safeguard the wellbeing of the workforce. Amazon is looking for an experienced, energetic Onsite Medical Representative (OMR) to support this mission at the St. Thomas, Ontario site.

In this role, you will work alongside the WHS site manager, WHS specialist, and at times the Wellness Specialist. You will take part in weekly associate safety committee meetings, welcome new hires, and connect with associates through regular one-on-one interactions. You may also join weekly case management reviews when required.

The position involves independently evaluating injuries and illnesses, providing first aid, and guiding associates on both job-related and non-job-related health concerns. A strong interest in health promotion, wellness education, and safe-work practices is important, as you will support associates throughout the day, refer cases to external medical providers when needed, and build knowledge of OSHA-related concepts, risk, and analysis.

As part of the on-site team, you will help with first aid response and broader safety operations as needed.

Key responsibilities

  • Deliver first aid support and arrange referrals to outside medical professionals when appropriate.
  • Reduce injury risk for associates through education, awareness-building, and proactive engagement.
  • Keep complete and accurate records of all care provided.
  • Support and track workers’ compensation and return-to-work cases for associates with work-related injuries.
  • Prepare daily activity logs and end-of-shift summaries.
  • Work with associates and site leadership on the operations floor by coaching observed unsafe or high-risk work habits.
  • Keep the medical area organized, clean, and stocked with required supplies.
  • Take part in training and certification activities that support first aid, CPR, and AED classes.
  • Maintain current first aid, CPR, and AED credentials.
  • Be available for flexible scheduling, including days, nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Support random saliva drug-testing procedures when required.
  • Provide effective care during emergencies and assist with site emergency response.

Work environment and physical demands

  • Ability to lift up to 49 pounds and frequently push, pull, squat, bend, and reach.
  • Capacity to stand and walk for up to 12 hours per shift.
  • Comfort working in settings with changing noise levels.
  • Willingness to work in environments with variable temperatures and weather conditions, including outside loading areas at delivery stations.
  • Ability to continuously use stairs where applicable.

Accommodation and equal opportunity

Amazon provides workplace accommodation in line with the Ontario Human Rights Code and the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act. Candidates who need an accommodation during the hiring process should inform Human Resources if contacted for an opportunity.

Amazon is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate on the basis of protected veteran status, disability, or any other protected characteristic. If you need an accommodation or adjustment during the application, interview, or onboarding process, Amazon directs applicants to its hiring accommodations process.

Basic qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Current CPR course completion.
  • A valid certificate showing completion of first aid, CPR, and AED training from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross, or the ability to obtain it within four weeks of starting.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products and applications.
  • For Ontario: high school diploma or equivalent, plus a valid card showing completion of standard first aid with CPR/AED level A or C from a WSIB-approved certifying authority.
  • For Ontario: one of the following is required — valid Provincial Primary Care Paramedic (PCP) certification from the Ministry of Health and/or the Canadian Organization of Paramedic Regulators, or registration as a Practical Nurse (RPN) or Registered Nurse (RN) with the Ministry of Health and/or the applicable provincial nursing authority/Department of Health.

Preferred experience

  • Background in workers’ compensation processes.
  • Experience and certification in teaching first aid, CPR, and AED.
  • Military medic experience within the Canadian Armed Forces.
  • Certified to teach first aid, CPR, and AED through the Canadian Red Cross.
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  • Experience working in an industrial wellness program.
  • Experience supporting musculoskeletal issues, ergonomics, and body-mechanics coaching.
  • Hands-on familiarity with OSHA-related requirements and workers’ compensation.
  • Comfort with digital recordkeeping systems.
