Role overview
This position is responsible for leading zone-level security operations and strengthening the security framework across the site. The role combines strategic planning, operational control, risk management, investigations, budgeting, governance, and project execution to protect people, assets, infrastructure, and business continuity.
Key responsibilities
- Contribute to the wider security strategy and roadmap by bringing in zone-specific inputs aligned to the business security plan.
- Ensure the zone security approach stays aligned with group policy and wider organizational standards.
- Drive strategic initiatives at the zone or plant level and institutionalize operational excellence practices.
- Prepare, track, and manage the security budget, including both capital and operating expenditure, and finalize it with the Vertical Security Head for approval.
- Track budget usage closely and flag any shortfalls or overruns to the Vertical Security Head.
- Review ongoing strategic initiatives regularly and participate in governance council meetings to surface issues and recommend improvements.
- Build strong information channels with administrative authorities, police, local communities, and media contacts to support intelligence gathering.
- Track daily local, national, and international developments that may affect the organization or the zone.
- Analyze intelligence inputs, anticipate risks, and prepare mitigation actions.
- Maintain a high vigilance posture across security operations at all times.
- Conduct security risk assessments, identify vulnerabilities, and implement countermeasures in consultation with the Vertical Security Head.
- Map gaps in security infrastructure, processes, systems, and technology, prioritize them, and close them within the expected timelines.
- Evaluate threat scenarios such as theft, vandalism, terror-related incidents, pilferage, assault, and unauthorized access.
- Review security risk assessment reports and ensure recommended mitigation measures are executed.
- Support internal and third-party security audits and complete timely checks to validate the security management system.
- Share audit findings with the corporate team, discuss corrective actions with stakeholders, and ensure outstanding observations are closed promptly.
- Design emergency response and control plans for crises, incidents, and emergencies to support business continuity and faster recovery.
- Lead response actions during emergencies and escalate critical issues to management without delay.
- Oversee the selection and training of Quick Reaction Team staff.
- Update response plans based on lessons learned from incidents to improve readiness.
- Monitor zone operations to ensure compliance with SOPs and SOGs.
- Review MIS outputs and circulate weekly reports to the Zone CEO and VSH.
- Develop security awareness and training initiatives for employees and the community in coordination with the Zone CEO.
- Manage the end-to-end operations of the Zone Security Control Room and lead maintenance and upgrade initiatives.
- Ensure the control room is properly integrated with the National Security Control Room.
- Escalate incidents and group-level reports in line with the prescribed matrix.
- Supervise patrolling processes across the zone and handle exceptions.
- Periodically review CCTV, sensors, and other automation systems to maintain operational vigilance.
- Oversee access control operations end to end and manage deviations from process.
- Manage visitor access card workflows through the relevant systems.
- Supervise business traffic and material movement to ensure authorization and authenticity checks are completed as per SOPs.
- Review traffic bottlenecks and recommend process improvements.
- Oversee traffic management operations and ensure adherence to traffic rules.
- Investigate security incidents such as fraud, crimes, theft, pilferage, and vandalism, and initiate corrective measures.
- Prepare and share investigation reports for critical incidents with the BU team.
- Protect tangible and intangible assets around the clock through the ring-security model.
- Plan and execute security events as per the annual security plan and ensure proper coverage.
- Coordinate traffic movement to keep logistics flow disrupted as little as possible.
- Conduct zone and road surveys and plan for overweight and over-dimensional consignments.
- Define performance metrics for the Zone Security function and finalize them with the Business Security Head.
- Review performance regularly and drive process excellence initiatives to close gaps and improve efficiency.
- Build ownership for action plans and encourage the team to lead improvements within the Zone Security function.
- Monitor outsourced staffing levels and initiate recruitment as required.
- Assess third-party security service providers and confirm that deployed manpower meets defined standards.
- Engage regularly with outsourced security staff to address welfare needs.
- Ensure OMP deployment follows the work breakdown structure and matches competency requirements.
- Lead hiring for vacant roles at the zone and support the Vertical Security Head in identifying and selecting talent for critical positions.
- Promote a performance-oriented culture through goal setting, performance reviews, and feedback.
- Identify and drive projects that improve security technology, automation, and infrastructure in line with group guidelines and industry best practices.
- Apply disciplined project management practices to ensure on-time execution and strong returns on investment.
- Integrate new projects into regular security operations with stakeholder alignment.
Qualifications and experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Management or another relevant field.
- Postgraduate qualification in a relevant discipline.
- Certifications such as CPP, CFE, TAPA, PSP, Industrial Security credentials, or PMP are considered added value.
- For major sites: more than 10 years of security experience, including at least 5 years in a leadership role in a similar position at a large organization, with direct reporting to the Zone Head.
- For medium or minor sites: more than 8 years of security experience, including at least 5 years in a team-leading role in a similar position at a mid-sized organization, with direct reporting to the Zone Head.
- Hands-on background in access control, traffic management, de-risking, infrastructure and people protection, fraud and misconduct investigation, security technology, threat and risk assessment, surveillance, and systems management.
- Exposure to multiple security risk management areas, crisis handling, and physical asset protection across different businesses or geographies.
- Experience managing operational and capital budgets with strong planning and project execution skills.
- Working knowledge of regulatory compliance across security domains.
- Strong understanding of investigation methods and audit procedures.
- Analytical thinking, problem-solving ability, multitasking capability, and comfort working with complex stakeholder groups and senior leadership.
- Experience with modern security tools, systems, and applications is preferred.
- Project management experience in security automation and infrastructure improvement is preferred.
- Military background is an added advantage.
