Role summary
This is a permanent, full-time onsite opportunity based in Athlone, County Westmeath, with work across Athlone, Bigmeadow, and surrounding counties. The role sits within the Retinal Technicians team and centres on eye photography used to detect retinal damage linked to diabetes complications.
No previous experience is required, making this a strong entry point into healthcare or a development opportunity for someone already working in the sector. Full training and ongoing support are provided by an experienced professional team.
Team and support
You will work as part of a national programme alongside Senior Diabetic Retinal Technicians and Team Leaders, with additional support from the administration team, programme manager, and clinical lead. The team already has, or is developing, strong subject matter expertise in retinopathy, so guidance is available throughout your journey.
What you will do
- Carry out eye photography for diabetic retinal screening purposes.
- Support the detection of retina damage associated with diabetes-related complications.
- Work independently after initial training while maintaining high standards of care.
- Manage day-to-day tasks using initiative, prioritisation, and problem-solving skills.
- Communicate effectively with patients and colleagues at different levels.
