Role overview
This full-time overnight grocery role supports the department manager in meeting department sales and profitability targets. The position focuses on restocking the store during overnight hours while helping maintain consistent, compliant store conditions that strengthen customer trust and loyalty. The associate is expected to keep fresh, attractive products available, deliver prompt and courteous service, and contribute to an inclusive workplace that values different backgrounds and experiences.
Core duties
- Help create a welcoming shopping environment that makes customers feel valued and supported.
- Keep the department set to plan and maintain product availability, freshness, correct rotation, inventory levels, and proper shelf tags/signage.
- Support ordering activities and ensure cooler and freezer areas are maintained appropriately.
- Assist customers by locating items or suggesting alternatives when needed.
- Work cooperatively with teammates, share relevant company and department information, and help build trust and respect across the team.
- Follow all applicable local, state, federal, and company rules and procedures.
- Monitor stock and inventory conditions, and report shortages, discrepancies, or other issues.
- Inspect merchandise for quality and freshness and take the appropriate next step when items do not meet standards.
- Maintain required food temperatures and keep temperature records according to policy.
- Apply safety, sanitation, food-handling, and productivity standards consistently.
- Follow food safety and regulatory requirements, including USDA, COOL, and DOA standards.
- Carry out recalls and withdrawals quickly and ensure affected products are secured and removed from customer access.
- Identify unsafe conditions, report hazards to store leadership, and support safety programs and training.
- Report accidents, illegal activity, robbery, theft, fraud, and other safety or security concerns.
- Comply with wage and hour policies and help promote a strong safety culture in the store.
- Ensure required hazard assessments are available, PPE is used properly, and equipment is kept in safe working order.
- Report equipment issues and assist with hazard correction, including lockout/tagout when needed.
- Complete other job-related tasks as assigned.
Qualifications
The role requires a high school diploma or GED, strong customer service ability, and solid interpersonal, communication, and motivational skills. Candidates must be at least 18 years old, be authorized to work in the United States or be able to obtain that authorization, and successfully pass pre-employment drug testing and a background check. Relevant experience of 0 to 3 years is noted. English is required, and Spanish is preferred.
Work environment and physical demands
This is a heavy retail role with substantial physical activity. The associate will regularly stand or walk on different floor types, use both hands and feet for repetitive tasks, speak, see, hear, and smell, and may frequently reach overhead or at waist level, carry, push, or lift various loads. Occasional sitting, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and climbing up to 30 feet may be required. The work may take place indoors or outdoors and in cold, freezing, heated, or wet and humid conditions. The role can involve slippery or cluttered floors, hazardous equipment, sharp objects, loud noise, dust, fumes, sprays, skin irritants, and hazardous cleaning solutions. Common equipment includes cleaning tools, office equipment, register, pricing gun, scales, scanner, and material-handling equipment such as racks, carts, pallet jacks, and shopping carts. Preferred equipment includes a baler/compactor and box cutter. PPE such as goggles, gloves, and a back brace may be required. Pulling requirement is 250 lbs and lifting requirement is 50 lbs.
Schedule and travel
The shift pattern is varied. Overnight travel is not required. Travel is occasional.
