Job description
Role overviewThis position is responsible for keeping the plant within its normal operating range and ensuring safe, dependable, and efficient performance during steady running, start-up, shutdown, and emergency situations. The work centers on continuous monitoring of the DCS/PLC panel and strict compliance with standard operating procedures.Core responsibilitiesThe selected professional will be expected to handle the key duties listed below, along with any other assignment given by senior management as needed.Track panel readings and process conditions as per the required schedule, while also watching chemical usage and utility consumption.Keep plant parameters within approved operating limits and respond to alarms or abnormal conditions according to procedure.Watch trends in critical values to spot early signs of issues and inform the Shift In-charge so corrective action can be taken.Check equipment conditions and pay attention to automated warning signals to identify the source and type of malfunction, including leaks or breakages.Act on instructions shared by the Shift In-charge through shift team meetings or OMPRO directions to improve plant performance.Record the cause of deviations in OMPRO and document the corrective actions taken.Raise maintenance requests for equipment breakdowns in coordination with field operators and the Shift In-charge.Prepare detailed shift logs in writing, covering key parameter changes, events, actions taken, and any follow-up required in the OMPRO logbook.Collect and maintain operating data, instrument readings, analysis results, and other records, and escalate any abnormal observations to the Shift In-charge.Coordinate shutdown and restart activities through panel operations and communication with the field team.Access and use updated technical and PT documentation from sources such as ReIMS, the intranet portal, and LIMS as required.Complete tasks and activities assigned or configured in OMPRO within the expected timelines.Respond to fire and gas alarms and act according to the site Emergency Response Control Plan.Continuously monitor and update APC, RTO, optimizer, and other relevant systems.Follow all applicable policies, procedures, and operating instructions so work is performed in a controlled and consistent manner.Support ongoing improvements in systems, processes, and procedures wherever possible.EducationA Diploma or Engineering Degree is required.ExperienceA minimum of 3 years of experience in a process plant is required for BSC. Exposure to DCS operations is preferred.Functional and technical capabilitiesWorking knowledge of DCS/PLC systems.Ability to use operational tools such as OMPRO, SAP-IM, ELS, and ReIMS.Understanding of plant process technology.Familiarity with safety practices such as work permits, interlock bypass, and incident handling.Capability to handle emergencies effectively.Knowledge of unit operations and material balance.Strong communication, problem-solving, and analytical ability.Ability to think clearly and act responsibly in difficult situations.Ethical approach to work.Performance measuresControl over the key operating parameters managed directly by the role.Number of controllable operating parameters that remain in alarm state.Quality deviations in product and intermediates during the shift.Performance against relevant OMPRO KPIs such as HOTO duration and unauthorized system overrides.Completion of assigned work and routine activities as per operating procedures.Effectiveness of emergency response in line with the site control plan.Quality of written and verbal communication with shift team members.Implementation of improvement suggestions and ideas.
