Paralegal Expert

Role Overview

This is a remote, hourly contractor position for a Paralegal Subject Matter Expert (SME). In this role, you will review AI-generated legal support answers and/or produce expert-level paralegal content. Your work will focus on judging reasoning quality, checking each step of the task flow, and supplying clear written feedback that helps improve model performance.

You will evaluate outputs for legal accuracy, clarity, completeness, and alignment with the prompt. The work also includes spotting mistakes in legal terminology, procedural sequencing, document structure, issue identification, and the handling of citations or authorities where relevant. You may also verify legal-adjacent facts, draft strong explanations, and compare multiple responses to determine which one is more correct and better reasoned.

This opportunity is with SME Careers, an AI data services company and a subsidiary of SuperAnnotate. The company supports training data production for major AI companies and foundation model labs. Your legal knowledge will contribute directly to improving AI systems so they produce more accurate, dependable, and well-explained legal reasoning.

Key Responsibilities

• Create high-quality training materials for AI, including paralegal prompts, document templates, checklists, research summaries, and drafting examples.
• Assess and rank AI-generated responses to improve accuracy, readability, formatting, and practical legal usefulness.
• Check model outputs for factual mistakes, overconfident or misleading claims, confidentiality concerns, and bias, while confirming consistency across different legal support scenarios.
• Review reasoning chains and step-by-step execution to ensure the final answer reflects correct legal support methods.
• Provide detailed written feedback that explains what is correct, what needs improvement, and how the response should be strengthened.

Candidate Profile

Applicants should have an associate’s degree, bachelor’s degree, or higher in Paralegal Studies, Legal Studies, or a related discipline. Paralegal certification is considered an advantage. A minimum of 4 years of professional experience as a paralegal or legal assistant is required, gained in a law firm, in-house legal team, or public-sector setting.

You should be comfortable with core legal support processes such as intake, fact collection, drafting documents, version management, and organizing matters. Strong legal research ability is important, including the skill to summarize cases, statutes, and regulations accurately and clearly. Experience with litigation support tasks such as pleadings, discovery, subpoenas, and motion-related work, or with transactional tasks such as contracts and corporate filings, is relevant depending on the area of work.

Attention to detail must be exceptional, including the ability to catch inconsistencies, missing information, formatting problems, and vague wording. A minimum English level of C1 is required. You should also be comfortable handling confidential material responsibly, work independently, and maintain dependable quality in an hourly remote contractor setup across time zones. Experience in AI data training, annotation, legal operations, or editorial review is strongly preferred.

This role is remote and paid on an hourly contractor basis. No immediate project is currently available, but qualified candidates may be contacted for future assignments through the expert network.
