Pets at Home is hiring a Payroll Coordinator for a permanent full-time position based in Handforth, with hybrid working. The role sits within a busy, collaborative payroll team responsible for processing pay for more than 10,000 colleagues across the Support Office, stores, and distribution centre.

Key duties

The position involves end-to-end payroll administration on a four-week cycle, along with support for complex pay matters and ongoing process improvements.

  • Run full payroll processing on a four-weekly schedule
  • Deal with overpayments, statutory pay items, and manual calculations
  • Support RTI reporting and period-end balancing checks
  • Prepare and manage P45s, starter documentation, and third-party payroll payments
  • Help maintain compliance with NMW rules and payroll law
  • Work alongside Payroll Advisors to guide and coach Payroll Assistants
  • Serve as an initial contact for more complex payroll questions
  • Generate business reports and help keep payroll processes efficient

What the employer is looking for

  • Background in payroll administration within an office environment
  • Strong focus on accuracy and detail
  • Good written and spoken communication skills
  • Comfortable using Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Reliable, discreet, and able to manage sensitive information confidently

Preferred experience

  • CIPP Payroll Technician qualification is welcome, though not mandatory
  • Understanding of current payroll legislation is an advantage
  • Experience using SAP payroll systems would be beneficial
