Opportunity Overview

Maseno University Retirement Benefits Scheme (MURBS) is seeking a capable and forward-thinking Pension Manager to strengthen its leadership team. The Scheme is a major pension provider in Kenya, focused on delivering reliable retirement benefits, safeguarding member interests, and promoting financial security through disciplined fund management, innovative investment approaches, and long-term sustainable growth.

Role Purpose

Reporting to the Board of Trustees, the Pension Manager will provide both strategic and operational leadership in executing the Board’s vision, mission, strategic plan, policies, and resolutions. The role requires a strong communicator with sound interpersonal abilities, as well as proven capability in management, organization, and decision-making.

Key Duties

  • Lead the strategic direction of the Scheme and support the Board of Trustees in delivering governance and oversight priorities.
  • Direct the administration of Scheme funds, investments, assets, and financial resources to support stability, growth, and value creation.
  • Guide the delivery of high-quality pension administration services and stakeholder engagement activities that build member trust and satisfaction.
  • Strengthen risk management practices, ensure compliance with applicable regulations, and maintain effective internal controls.
  • Champion operational improvement, digital transformation, and organizational development to improve efficiency, innovation, and overall performance.

Qualifications and Experience

Applicants should hold a Bachelor’s degree in Business Management, Actuarial Science, or another relevant field from a recognized institution. A Master’s degree will be an added advantage. The role also requires a minimum of ten (10) years of post-qualification experience, including at least five (5) years in senior management within the pension sector in an organization of similar size and complexity. Candidates must also have a professional qualification in their area of specialization, active membership in a relevant professional body, and leadership training lasting not less than four (4) weeks. Practical experience in accounting, investment management, and fund management is essential, along with strong knowledge of Kenya’s pension laws and regulations.
