Job description

About the Company

Qantas began in the Queensland outback in 1920 and has since developed into Australia’s largest airline group, with regional, domestic and international operations. Alongside its core airline brands, Qantas and Jetstar, the Group also includes subsidiary businesses that help keep the wider operation running smoothly across freight, terminals and other support functions.

About the Role

The People Partner, Freight will work as a trusted adviser to business leaders across Freight and Sydney Terminals (KSA & WSI). This is a hands-on generalist business partnering role focused on translating business goals into practical people strategies that strengthen performance, culture and leadership capability.

You will join a seasoned People team with a strong performance focus, working in a business that operates in a fast-moving and often uncertain environment. The role calls for commercial thinking, sound judgement and the ability to build people solutions that address immediate operational needs while also preparing the workforce for future capability requirements.

What You’ll Do

  • Act as a reliable People business partner to senior stakeholders.
  • Support cultural change and transformation activity using experience in change management, coaching and employee relations.
  • Help deliver people initiatives aligned with business priorities.
  • Partner on large-scale workforce growth and capability uplift programs.
  • Coach line managers on people advisory matters.
  • Use data and analysis to identify workforce priorities and make the case for change.

What Success Looks Like

Success in this position depends on strong commercial understanding, the ability to diagnose issues quickly, and confidence working across Centres of Excellence and consultant support teams. The role contributes to workforce planning, employment relations, organisational design, talent development, succession planning, culture initiatives, leadership development and employee experience.

Requirements

  • A tertiary qualification in Human Resources or a closely related field.
  • At least 3–5+ years of HR experience, preferably in a commercial setting.
  • Proven experience managing complex grievances.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver positive people outcomes in complex environments involving multiple awards and business units.
  • Experience coordinating projects and supporting strategic HR programs, including transformation and change initiatives.
  • Strong stakeholder management and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively at all levels of the organisation and across varied working styles.
  • Sound discretion, a high level of confidentiality and the confidence to work through ambiguity and complexity.

Why Join Qantas

Qantas offers a workplace where creativity and passion are encouraged, and where people are supported to grow both personally and professionally. You will receive on-the-job training, coaching and access to formal learning opportunities from day one, along with the chance to build a career across a wide range of directions within the organisation.

Employee Benefits

  • Flexible leave arrangements, including flexible working options, 18 weeks of paid parental leave, superannuation on paid and unpaid parental leave until the child turns one, and additional purchased leave options for eligible employees.
  • Substantially discounted air travel in Australia and worldwide for employees, family and friends, plus access to accommodation and holiday offers.
  • Discounts across shopping, food and wine, insurance, health and wellbeing, leisure and entertainment, along with salary packaging options for motor vehicles, eligible portable electronic devices and professional memberships.
  • Wellbeing support such as resources to help with mental health, an interactive wellbeing app and a personalised nutrition plan.
