Job description

Role overview

AstraZeneca is hiring a Pharmaceutical Cleaner for its North Ryde manufacturing site in Sydney, New South Wales, on a full-time 24-month contract. The role works Monday to Friday from 7:00am to 3:00pm and is based on-site, with parking available and convenient access to public transport. Pay starts at $29.03 per hour, plus superannuation, shift loading, and any relevant allowances.

This position sits within a supportive team environment where cleanliness, accuracy, and consistency help enable the production of life-changing medicines. Full training is provided, including pharmaceutical cleaning standards.

About the employer

The North Ryde facility is a Sydney-based manufacturing site focused on producing high-quality medicines for Australia and global markets. It is one of the country’s major pharmaceutical manufacturers and is known for a strong safety culture, efficient operations, and a high-performing team environment.

What the role involves

Working under the direction of the Cleaning Supervisor, you will help maintain the cleanliness and hygiene standards required in a regulated pharmaceutical setting. The job includes cleaning both production and office areas, handling cleaning equipment, completing records, and supporting inspection readiness.

  • Work to detailed cleaning timetables across production and non-production areas.
  • Carry out cleaning in line with Good Manufacturing Practice standards.
  • Use powered cleaning equipment and look after it correctly after training.
  • Sort waste and recycling in support of sustainability objectives.
  • Complete cleaning logs and shift records accurately.
  • Assist with hygiene audits and inspection preparation.
  • Follow site security procedures and report incidents or accidents promptly.
  • Communicate effectively and contribute positively as part of a team.

What you need

Applicants should bring prior cleaning experience, ideally from a hospital, food production, hotel, aged care, or other tightly controlled environment. The role also requires physical stamina, basic computer or mobile device confidence, and a dependable, team-oriented approach.

  • Experience in a cleaning role, preferably in a regulated setting.
  • Ability to manage repetitive tasks, lifting, and cleaning equipment use.
  • Comfort using basic digital tools for training or form completion.
  • A reliable work ethic and willingness to collaborate with others.
  • Exposure to pharmaceutical, food production, hospital, hotel, or aged care cleaning is an advantage.
  • Familiarity with GMP, HACCP, or hygiene inspection support is beneficial, though training will be provided.
  • Comfort with checklists and scheduled cleaning routines.

Selection process

The hiring process may take between 1 and 3 weeks, depending on candidate availability.

  • 30-minute phone interview with the recruitment team.
  • On-site visit at 47 Talavera Road, including a practical assessment, an in-person interview with the Cleaning Supervisor, and a medical check.
  • The on-site stage may take up to 2 hours.
  • Shortlisted candidates must provide supporting verification documents before an offer is issued.
  • These documents include two references, employment verification from previous employers, and 100 points of identification such as a passport, driver’s licence, and proof of address.
  • A police check and an animal rights check are also required and can be completed online.
  • Documents will need to be uploaded to the Hireright portal near the end of the recruitment process.

This position offers secure working hours, extra compensation for certain shifts and specialised cleaning duties, and ongoing work in a regulated environment. The company also provides full GMP training, a clean and safe workplace, and a pathway into pharmaceutical manufacturing.
