Job description

Role overview

As a Pharmacy Technician, you’ll help deliver high-quality, patient-focused service to local communities. The role combines direct patient support, technical advice on medicines, triage support, and day-to-day help for the pharmacy team.

Core duties

  • Offer personalised guidance to patients on medicines, healthcare products, and Macmillan Cancer Support-related options.
  • Deliver pharmacy services based on the needs of the store.
  • Work closely with the pharmacy team, helping to coach and motivate colleagues so care standards remain consistently high.
  • Support patient triage and hand out prescription information and medicines as required.
  • Make sound legal, safe, and ethical decisions within the pharmacy setting.
  • Handle operational work such as stock replenishment, managing workload, completing orders, and receiving and managing controlled drugs while prioritising patient safety.

Required background

  • You must be registered with the appropriate pharmacy regulator: GPhC, PSNI, or PSI.
  • You should be enthusiastic about supporting, coaching, and guiding a dispensary team.
  • Strong communication and organisational ability is important.
  • You should be motivated to improve outcomes for teams, customers, and patients.
  • A clear commitment to service delivery and excellent patient care is essential.
  • You need to be comfortable using pharmacy systems and related technology.

Desirable experience

Having prior experience as a Pharmacy Technician, including checking responsibilities, would be an advantage, but it is not mandatory because training will be provided.
