Job description
About the organization
Calian is a long-established Canadian company that supports organizations in reducing risk, solving complex problems, and moving important work forward. Since 1982, it has expanded from a consulting business into a global provider serving defence, space, health, nuclear energy, public safety, and government sectors.
The organization focuses on practical, innovative solutions that help communities and organizations remain resilient, informed, and connected. It values people who are motivated by meaningful work and energized by solving real-world challenges.
Role overview
Calian is hiring a full-time Physiotherapist for the Canadian Forces Health Services Centre in Edmonton. The role involves comprehensive consultation, assessment, and treatment within the physiotherapy unit through booked appointments and walk-ins, as well as in the Care Delivery Unit through sick parade and consultation. The setting follows a collaborative care model, and the patient population is described as highly motivated and generally very fit.
Key duties
The physiotherapist will manage a diverse orthopedic caseload and provide evidence-based rehabilitation aligned with professional standards and scope of practice. The position includes assessment and treatment of neuro-musculoskeletal concerns, especially those linked to sports injuries, training-related injuries, workplace incidents, and accidents.
Daily work also includes obtaining informed consent, offering screening assessments in direct-access settings, recommending orthoses, prescribing exercises, and using manual therapy and soft tissue methods. The role may also involve acupuncture-style pain management techniques, ergonomics education, on-site workplace assessments, and injury-prevention or health-promotion education for patients and the healthcare team.
In addition, the physiotherapist will perform biomechanical foot assessments, support orthotics fitting and fabrication, contribute to rehabilitation and education programs, participate in interdisciplinary discussions and clinical rounds, and maintain complete clinical documentation in line with Canadian Forces and provincial record-keeping requirements.
Qualifications and requirements
Candidates must hold an active physiotherapy licence in good standing in Alberta. A minimum of 3 years of experience in orthopedics or sports medicine is required, along with one of the following credentials: Manual Therapy Level 2, McKenzie Part B, or an acupuncture credential such as AFCI or Dry Needling Certification.
Applicants must also have a valid Standard First Aid certificate and current Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers, or an equivalent CPR/AED Level C certification. The role also requires the ability to obtain a Government Security Clearance at the Reliability level. A security clearance and/or vulnerable sector screening may also be needed, and the recruiter will explain the clearance process.
Work schedule and conditions
This is a full-time onsite position. Working hours are weekdays from 7:30 am to 4:00 pm, with no evening or weekend shifts. The job is focused on treatment delivery rather than billing or marketing tasks.
Perks and benefits
Employees benefit from an evidence-based, patient-centred approach that emphasizes active rehabilitation techniques. The role offers access to ample resources, spacious treatment areas, a collaborative multidisciplinary team, and a motivated patient base.
Additional advantages include in-house and on-base facilities with exercise programming, gym equipment, custom bracing and orthotics, and specialized military equipment. A comprehensive health and dental benefits package is available for eligible full-time positions.
Additional information
Calian states that it does not use AI to screen or assess candidates; recruitment decisions are made by people. AI may support only back-end administrative tasks. Only candidates selected for interview will be contacted.
