Job description
Role Overview
This position is responsible for directing every major function of the plant, including production, quality assurance, customer service, maintenance, receiving, and shipping. The goal is to keep operations safe, efficient, and properly controlled while leading subordinate staff in their daily work.
Core Responsibilities
- Lead all departments at the site, covering production, administration, distribution, and safety.
- Build strong relationships with existing customers and deliver service that supports retention and loyalty.
- Work directly with customers to identify service improvements and put those changes into practice.
- Track and manage key performance measures such as sales growth, collections, productivity, inventory control, and profit margins.
- Prepare reliable budget forecasts and operate within approved spending limits.
- Oversee product quality checks and introduce process improvements where needed.
- Handle human resources responsibilities across departments, including hiring, termination, and reassigning staff as needed.
- Take on other duties as assigned.
- Spot operational gaps and drive ongoing improvement initiatives.
- Stay actively connected with the local community.
- Support the development of leadership capability at lead person and foreman level.
- Take on additional assigned duties as needed.
Supervisory Scope
- Direct the work of team members by planning, assigning, scheduling, and reviewing tasks while ensuring quality expectations are met.
- Oversee hiring, termination, training, development, performance reviews, and corrective action for staff.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- At least 5 years of managerial or supervisory experience in production, operations, and/or distribution.
- Prior management experience in salvage yards is preferred.
- Strong numeracy skills, including the ability to add, subtract, multiply, divide, and work with rates, ratios, percentages, and graphs.
- Regular use of Outlook, Word, Excel, graphics tools, databases, and PowerPoint to create and manage business documents and presentations.
- Comfortable communicating complex information across departments and with leadership, including handling sensitive situations and influencing others.
- Able to analyze varied and complex problems and resolve them using sound judgment, established practices, and prior experience.
- Capable of making decisions that affect departmental operations and contributing to broader business and operational choices.
- Can set goals and priorities for functional areas and recommend policies, practices, and programs when needed.
- Able to manage multiple moderate-complexity tasks or projects at the same time.
- Physical work may involve standing, walking, pushing, pulling, squatting, bending, reaching, climbing stairs, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or sitting for long periods.
- Must be able to occasionally lift up to 75 pounds and, at times, up to 100 pounds.
- Work may include exposure to hazardous conditions and equipment, cramped spaces, awkward positions under vehicles, PPE use, extreme temperatures, and high noise levels.
- Periodic travel, including overnight travel, may be required depending on the role.
