Job description

About the Company

Sleepyhead has spent more than 90 years helping New Zealanders sleep well. The business is proudly owned and operated in New Zealand, creating local employment and contributing to the communities it serves.

As a family-run organisation with operations in New Zealand and Australia, the company is built on family values and a strong focus on its people. Many employees have stayed with the business for decades, with some service records extending beyond 50 years.

The organisation is also part of The Comfort Group, the largest bedding and foam manufacturer in Australasia, with several facilities across New Zealand and Australia, including four major super sites.

About the Role

This is a hands-on production position based at the Otahuhu site, supporting the manufacture of bedding products. Depending on your background, you may work with raw materials, run production equipment, and assist across different work areas within the factory.

You will rotate through a variety of stations such as mattress assembly, sewing, quilting, bases, upholstery, packing, spring line, housekeeping, and other site functions. Complete training is provided, along with the opportunity to develop skills across multiple areas of the operation.

  • Check raw materials and completed goods against quality requirements
  • Perform quality inspections and keep records up to date and accurate
  • Work with colleagues to help maintain a safe, productive, and positive workplace
  • Move between assigned production areas and keep workspaces tidy and orderly
  • Escalate hazards, equipment issues, and quality or process non-conformances without delay
  • Take part in continuous training and occupational health and safety improvement activities
  • Complete additional tasks as directed by your supervisor

  • Positive team player with a cooperative approach
  • Strong focus on safety and product quality
  • Willing to learn and work across several production areas
  • Good communication and collaboration skills
  • Manufacturing background is useful but not required
  • Forklift licence is an advantage for certain roles
