Job description

About Sol

Sol is developing an AI-native HR platform built for a workplace that is evolving quickly. Instead of layering AI onto a traditional HRIS, the company is creating a new foundation from the ground up so HR leaders can understand their workforce clearly and manage change at scale. Sol is backed by Sutter Hill Ventures and NEA, and its first customers are scheduled to go live in early 2027.

The Opportunity

Sol is looking to hire its first Product Designer. In this role, you will help define the experience layer for a platform that serves everyone from employees who should not need to log into a portal, to chief people officers overseeing compliance across many countries.

The design philosophy centers on an agentic experience: the product should meet people where they already are. That could mean a straightforward chat for an employee, a configuration experience for an HR administrator handling deep complexity, or the right prompt at the right time for a manager. On top of that, customers will shape their own versions of Sol by configuring agents, workflows, and interface behavior, so the role also includes designing the tools that let customers tailor the platform to their organization. The configuration layer, guardrails, and language choices are all part of the challenge.

This is a foundational design role with broad ownership across the product.

What You'll Do

  • Set the design direction and system for Sol across employee interactions, HR admin flows, manager views, and leadership dashboards.
  • Create experiences for an agent-first product, with a conversational and cross-surface mindset that works from lightweight chat to highly configurable workflows.
  • Shape the builder layer that lets customers define agents, workflows, and interfaces for their own teams.
  • Build and maintain a design system that supports everything from seamless employee moments to demanding compliance and configuration needs.
  • Make strong product judgment about where interactions should live inside Sol, what the agent should handle, and what should be surfaced elsewhere.
  • Work directly with early customers to learn how employees, HR teams, managers, and finance teams use the system today and what they will need next.
  • Collaborate closely with product and engineering to turn complex domain requirements into experiences that feel intuitive and natural.

What We're Looking For

  • Background designing enterprise software with real organizational complexity and multiple user types.
  • Experience designing for different audiences in the same product, including end users who want minimal friction, administrators who need advanced control, and leaders who need clear signal.
  • Experience with platform or builder products that allow customers or operators to configure, extend, or create experiences for others.
  • Careful thinking about how a design system and downstream product experiences should relate, including what should be standardized and where flexibility is needed.
  • Hands-on experience contributing to or shaping a design system early in its lifecycle, with judgment around consistency versus variation.
  • Direct customer involvement during product development, including live conversations that provide firsthand context.
  • Thoughtful perspective on conversational and agentic interfaces, including how to design interactions that span sessions and surfaces.
  • Experience designing high-stakes workflows where compliance, approvals, and data integrity are critical and trust matters.
  • A collaborative, low-ego working style with the ability to contribute without requiring a fully defined brief.

Bonus Experience

  • Work in HR technology, workforce management, or a related enterprise area.
  • Exposure to early-stage company environments where ambiguity is high and resources are limited.
  • Ability to prototype quickly and turn concepts into tangible ideas fast.

Why This Role Matters

Enterprise tools have often forced users to adapt to software. Sol is taking the opposite approach: the system should adapt to people, and design is what makes that real.

You would be joining at the moment when the design foundation is being created, rather than inheriting an existing system. That means the language, the builder experience, and the definition of simplicity in the face of enterprise complexity will all be yours to help shape. You would be working with a team that combines deep domain knowledge with strong conviction about what AI can enable in workforce software.

Equal Opportunity and Accommodation

Sol is an equal opportunity employer. Employment decisions are made without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, genetic information, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, marital status, veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by applicable federal, state, or local law. The company is committed to an inclusive workplace and will provide reasonable accommodations to qualified individuals with disabilities.
