Job description
About Karbon
Karbon is a globally recognized provider of AI-enabled practice management software built for accounting firms. Its cloud platform supports tens of thousands of accounting professionals in working more effectively together each day. The company serves customers in 40 countries and operates with a distributed team across the US, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, the United Kingdom, and the Philippines. Karbon is well funded, holds the #1 position on G2, is expanding quickly, and is known for a people-first environment that has earned Great Place To Work® certification and a place on Fortune magazine’s Best Small Workplaces™ list.
About the Role
In this leadership role, you will guide a team of product managers and turn company strategy into focused priorities, investment choices, and roadmap decisions. You will work closely with engineering and design to move products through discovery, delivery, and learning while keeping customer needs, business value, and technical constraints in balance.
As AI continues to transform the accounting sector, you will help pinpoint where Karbon can create the most value through AI, automation, and platform capabilities. Your work will contribute to strengthening the company’s competitive edge while ensuring product investment stays aligned with customer expectations and business direction.
You will also be expected to grow product talent by coaching product managers and improving the quality of product thinking and execution across your teams.
Strong product judgment is central to success in this position: you should be able to prioritize clearly, manage trade-offs confidently, and focus teams on the opportunities that matter most for customers and the business.
What You Will Do
- Set the direction for the product portfolio and oversee roadmap delivery.
- Help teams identify the most valuable opportunities, weigh trade-offs effectively, and deliver outcomes that support Karbon’s long-term position.
- Carry out detailed customer research and market review to determine where the company should invest and where it should hold back.
- Turn customer feedback and product insights into strategy, roadmap order, and release decisions.
- Collaborate with Engineering and Design across the full lifecycle: Opportunity, Build, Launch, Learn, and Outcome.
- Use AI as a core product development tool to prototype concepts, test workflows, and challenge assumptions before resources are committed.
- Define and track group-level metrics such as adoption, usage, retention, expansion, and business impact, and stay accountable for results beyond simply releasing features.
- Coach and develop product managers so they build stronger judgment, ownership, and decision-making skills.
- Align Sales, Customer Success, Support, and Finance around pillar strategy and launches.
- Work with Engineering and Design leadership to maintain both quality and delivery pace.
Who You Are
- You bring 8+ years of product management experience, including ownership of strategic product areas at director or senior level.
- You have proven leadership experience and a track record of helping product managers grow through regular coaching and constructive feedback.
- You have delivered high-impact products end to end and taken responsibility for customer and business outcomes.
- You have strong product judgment and can make decisive trade-offs under pressure.
- You take a hands-on approach, contributing to strategy, solution design, and workflow validation rather than only delegating.
- You use AI every day to prototype, ideate, analyze, and accelerate decisions.
- You are deeply customer-focused and base your understanding on actual behavior rather than assumptions.
- You coach PMs to strengthen their judgment, execution, and leadership.
- You think in data and measure real product performance and customer impact.
- You move quickly while still protecting quality and sound decision-making.
- You are comfortable working through ambiguity and change as strategy evolves with the business.
Bonus Points If You Have
- Experience in accounting, professional services, or tax-related industries.
- Experience with agentic workflows or AI-native product development.
- Built products using LLM or AI technologies from concept through go-to-market.
Why Work at Karbon
- Opportunity to gain international experience across the USA, New Zealand, the UK, and Canada.
- 4 weeks of annual leave plus 5 additional Karbon Days off each year.
- Flexible work environment.
- Chance to learn from an experienced, high-performing team.
- Fast-growing company that actively promotes strong performers from within.
- Collaborative and team-focused culture that values diversity, development, and ongoing feedback.
- Generous parental leave.
