Job description

Company Overview

sKids has been dedicated to after-school care and enriching experiences for children since 1996. Across New Zealand, the organisation now supports more than 3,800 children each day at over 170 school locations, and the network continues to expand.

The workplace is designed to be lively, hands-on, and playful. Team members are encouraged to take part in creative and active activities such as art, science, sport, cooking, and games, so each day feels different.

Role Summary

The Programme Assistant will help create engaging, safe, and enjoyable afternoons for children. This is a part-time on-site role based at the Botany Downs site in Auckland, with a minimum commitment of 5 hours per week scheduled from Monday to Friday.

Afternoon after-school sessions generally run from 2:30 pm to 6:00 pm, and being available from 2:30 pm is essential. Exact finishing times may change depending on the programme. Additional hours may be available during school holiday programmes, typically between 7:00 am and 6:00 pm.

Key Duties

You will support the programme team in delivering a positive experience for children by supervising activities, maintaining a clean and organised environment, and assisting the Programme Manager with the smooth running of sessions. You will also help identify and escalate any concerns related to behaviour, wellbeing, or safety so that children remain supported.

Benefits

Employees receive a 50% discount on selected sKids programmes, which can be useful for their own children. The role also includes a referral bonus of up to $250 for each successful referral, no weekend shifts, free time during the middle of the day, access to an Employee Assistance Programme, and a friendly team culture that values support and celebration.

Candidate Profile

Applicants should have the legal right to work in New Zealand, such as citizenship or a valid visa. Reliable transport or access to a vehicle is required to reach the Botany Downs site. Experience with children is welcome in many forms, including babysitting, coaching, or volunteering. The ideal candidate will be dependable, energetic, and eager to help make every session enjoyable.

Safeguarding and Compliance

sKids places strong emphasis on child protection and expects all staff to follow safeguarding practices that protect children and young people. Successful applicants will need to pass a satisfactory police record check. All applicants must also have the right to work in New Zealand.

Application Notes

Interested candidates may submit an application, and shortlisted applicants will be contacted by the team. The role is described as an opportunity to join a work environment that feels fun and engaging.
