Job description
Position Summary
The Senior Consultant Pulmonology & Sleep Medicine is responsible for providing comprehensive, evidence-based care for patients with respiratory and sleep-related disorders in a tertiary-care governmental hospital setting. The role includes diagnosing and managing a broad range of pulmonary conditions, leading the development and establishment of Sleep Medicine services, and ensuring high standards of patient care, safety, and clinical outcomes. The physician will work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team and contribute to service development, clinical governance, education, and quality improvement initiatives. The position is aligned with the Department of Healthcare Professions (DHP) licensing requirements in Qatar.
Key Responsibilities
- Diagnose and manage acute and chronic respiratory diseases in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
- Interpret and report sleep studies including polysomnography and home sleep testing where applicable.
- Lead the establishment and development of Sleep Medicine services and clinical pathways.
- Diagnose and manage sleep disorders, including obstructive sleep apnea and other sleep-related breathing disorders.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure integrated patient care.
- Participate in quality improvement, patient safety, teaching, research, and clinical governance activities.
- Provide leadership, mentorship, and support to junior medical staff.
- Participate in on-call duties as required.
Qualifications & Experience
- Medical Degree (MBBS/MD or equivalent) recognized by DHP, Qatar.
- Board Certification/Fellowship or equivalent qualification in Pulmonology/Respiratory Medicine.
- Additional qualification, fellowship, or demonstrated expertise in Sleep Medicine.
- Eligible for Senior Consultant licensure by DHP, Qatar.
- Minimum five (5) years of post-certification experience in Pulmonology after obtaining the highest relevant qualification.
- Experience in establishing or expanding Sleep Medicine services or Sleep Laboratories is highly preferred.
