Role overview

Mott MacDonald is hiring a Quantity Surveyor to join its transport advisory and programme delivery team in Dublin. In this position, you will support the commercial administration of several workstreams and projects tied to major transportation programmes, reporting to the Senior Quantity Surveyor.

About the division and team

The Advisory and Programme Delivery unit provides management, programme, and advisory services across built environment, defence, energy, water, transport, education, health, and care. The Ireland transport team is growing across Belfast, Dublin, Cork, and Galway, and brings together project and programme managers, planners, commercial managers, and quantity surveyors to deliver integrated project, programme, and commercial management solutions.

The team’s aim is to help deliver major transport schemes and become a trusted consulting partner for both existing and future clients. The work spans aviation, highways, rail, and maritime sectors.

What you'll do

You will help manage the commercial side of projects and ensure strong financial control, reporting, and stakeholder coordination across transportation assignments.

  • Handle commercial management for one or more projects
  • Track budgets and prepare month-end reporting, including actuals, monthly variances, accruals, and annual variances
  • Monitor and report on project risks
  • Support dispute prevention and resolution
  • Provide commercial strategy input and advice
  • Review subcontractor submissions and make recommendations for acceptance
  • Assess compensation events
  • Evaluate monthly payment applications
  • Participate in commercial audits
  • Guide and support junior colleagues

What the employer is looking for

The ideal candidate will have a strong commercial background, practical experience in transport-related work, and the confidence to work independently while contributing effectively to a wider team.

  • Degree-level qualification is preferred
  • MRICS membership, or active progress toward it, is desirable
  • Experience in cost planning, ideally within a cost consultancy or multidisciplinary setting
  • Background in contract administration, cost estimating, and NEC contracts
  • Prior experience on transport or highways projects is an advantage
  • Comfortable working both independently and collaboratively
  • Strong Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint skills
  • Clear written and verbal communication, including report writing and presentations
  • Ability to build effective working relationships with clients, stakeholders, colleagues, and supply chain partners
  • Flexible approach to work and willingness to travel to client locations and other Mott MacDonald offices
