Range Operator

Role overview

Downer is seeking a permanent Range Operator to work at Shoalwater Bay Training Area in Rockhampton, Queensland. This opportunity sits within Downer’s expanded Property and Asset Services contract, supporting base and estate services for major regions across NSW/ACT and Queensland, and continuing the company’s long-standing support of the Australian Defence Force.

Key duties

• Assist the Range Supervisor with day-to-day operation and basic upkeep of range facilities, while helping maintain site security and compliance with standing orders and safety procedures.
• Carry out routine inspections, maintenance, and general care of training areas and ranges.
• Support checks related to safety and compliance against applicable standards.
• Contribute to the delivery of specialist training area and range performance activities.
• Provide information and updates to assist the Range Supervisor with reporting.

What you should bring

• Experience or familiarity with facilities maintenance, minor repairs, or caretaker-style responsibilities.
• A Range Induction Course is preferred.
• A Medium Rigid Truck Licence is preferred.
• A current open driver’s licence is required.
• The ability to obtain and maintain a Defence security clearance; Australian citizenship is mandatory.
• Willingness to complete the relevant Public Safety Training Package units as part of the role.
