Job description

Role overview

The Queensland Government is looking for a Regional Director to provide leadership for the Child and Family region. This role focuses on delivering government priorities through services that are responsive to culture and tailored to community needs. You will oversee daily operations across the district or region, strengthen customer-focused service models, and offer strong strategic direction and stewardship to support the region’s vision, priorities, and obligations.

Impact and collaboration

In this senior leadership position, you will work in a results-oriented way and help build a service culture centred on clients, citizens, and communities. You will also collaborate with senior executives within the department, across the Queensland public service, and with interjurisdictional partners to develop solutions that improve outcomes for Queenslanders.

Leadership expectations

The role requires a leader who demonstrates the Queensland public sector values of customers first, ideas into action, unleash potential, be courageous, and empower people. You will be expected to take direct responsibility for serving the government of the day and addressing the needs of Queensland communities. At executive level, you will contribute to a high-performing system of public service delivery and management.

Experience and capability

Success in this position calls for a proven leader from a large, complex, and fast-moving organisation. You should bring deep experience in strategy and policy implementation, governance, service delivery, and client service. A strong track record of leading change in difficult environments, building partnerships and alliances, and developing a capable and confident workforce is essential. Experience in child protection settings is considered highly desirable.

Executive qualities

You will need excellent judgment, integrity, resilience, adaptability, a strong focus on delivery, and highly developed communication and negotiation skills. The role also requires the ability to guide teams and regions effectively, deliver on government priorities, and maintain excellence in client service. Strong professional leadership, together with proactive and collaborative engagement with internal and external stakeholders, is key. You will also manage relationships across government and within the sector.

Performance framework

As an executive, your performance will be reviewed against four accountability areas: stakeholders and outcomes, internal business, financial performance, and learning and growth.
