Role overview
SPAR Prosperous on Main Street in Prosperous, County Kildare is looking for a full-time Retail Supervisor to strengthen its store team. The role is hands-on and focused on leading the retail floor, supporting store standards, and helping deliver a strong customer experience.
Supervisory responsibilities
- Oversee the retail sales team each day and make sure assigned tasks are completed to the expected standard.
- Maintain a consistently high level of customer service across the store.
- Delegate work clearly and keep communication flowing with the sales team.
- Support the induction of new employees and help deliver effective training.
- Assist the Store Manager in monitoring and improving team performance.
Customer care
- Ensure shoppers receive reliable, high-quality service at all times.
- Handle customer issues and complaints in a calm, effective, and courteous way.
- Take appropriate follow-up action in the store when complaints highlight areas for improvement.
Operations
- Keep the store presented in a customer-friendly and commercially competitive way, following company procedures and standards.
- Maintain a high standard of housekeeping throughout the store.
- Coordinate in-store sales activity and promotional campaigns.
- Brief the retail team on sales and promotional plans so execution is consistent.
- Ensure correct cash register and cash-handling procedures are followed.
- Update shelf-edge labels on a weekly basis.
- Respond appropriately to local market changes and competitor activity.
Stock management
- Place stock orders as needed.
- Support the Store Manager with stocktake preparation and supervise stocktake activity where required.
- Help reduce stock loss caused by waste, damage, or pilferage.
- Ensure food management and waste processes are followed by the sales team.
- Check that sufficient stock is available to meet customer demand.
- Rotate stock correctly so in-date products are always available and out-of-date waste is minimised.
Legislation and security
- Work with the Store Manager to ensure safe opening and closing procedures are followed.
- Support management matters related to staffing while keeping in line with employment law, HACCP, health and safety, and consumer legislation.
- Identify possible hazards in the store and reduce or remove them where possible.
- Work with the Store Manager to complete health and safety checks and ensure actions are carried through.
General expectations
- Understand company policies and procedures and help ensure the team follows them effectively.
- Work toward the targets agreed with the Store Manager.
- Escalate issues to the Store Manager when appropriate.
- Keep regular communication open with the Store Manager.
- Carry out other reasonable duties assigned by the Store Manager.
Requirements
- Prior experience in a supervisory role.
- Working knowledge of a retail environment.
- Strong interpersonal and people skills.
- Understanding of consumer needs and expectations.
- Knowledge of employment law, health and safety, HACCP, and consumer legislation.
- A commitment to raising standards continuously.
- Self-driven and ambitious attitude.
- Comfortable using computers.
