Role overview
The Sales Associate serves as a brand ambassador on the shop floor, focusing on driving revenue, creating a memorable customer experience, and keeping the store looking and operating at a high standard. The position also supports visual presentation, stock handling, and routine retail operations as directed by the Store Manager or Assistant Store Manager.
Customer service
- Welcome shoppers, understand what they are looking for, and help them find products that suit their needs.
- Use proactive engagement to turn casual browsers into buyers.
- Explain and promote the company loyalty program to encourage repeat business.
- Follow the GUEST service approach: Greet, Understand, Explain, Sell, Thank.
- Build familiarity with the different brands in the group so you can make useful suggestions and suggest complementary items.
- Share product information clearly, including features, benefits, materials, and care guidance.
Appearance and work approach
- Maintain a polished, neat, and professional appearance at all times.
- Be willing to work longer hours during busy selling periods.
- Keep product knowledge current to support accurate recommendations and help reduce stock losses.
Merchandising and stock
- Present merchandise neatly and in line with the store’s display standards.
- Follow visual merchandising requirements and stock handling rules, including for clearance merchandise.
- Track inbound and outbound stock carefully and keep inventory records accurate.
- Use upselling and cross-selling techniques to improve sales performance.
- Stay updated on inventory levels and ongoing promotions so customer queries can be handled effectively.
Cash handling and store operations
- Operate the POS system smoothly for billing and sales transactions.
- Count and balance the cash drawer at both the beginning and end of the shift.
- Process payments accurately using cash, credit card, vouchers, or automated debit methods.
- Issue receipts, refunds, and change correctly.
- Remain alert to store security requirements and follow loss prevention procedures.
- Restock and reorganize merchandise on the sales floor to keep products available for customers.
Qualification requirements
A bachelor’s degree is preferred for this role. Strong communication and interpersonal abilities are important, and prior experience in a sales position is an advantage.
