Job description
Role overview
This senior-level role focuses on reviewing the full logistics chain, from transportation and warehousing to last-mile delivery and freight spend, while also measuring revenue streams and net income performance. The aim is to turn operational and financial data into a practical plan that lifts profitability, improves efficiency, and strengthens service return on investment.
Core responsibilities
- Examine end-to-end logistics activity and pinpoint operational issues such as delayed dispatches, underused trucks, and warehouse idle time, then work with the relevant teams to improve flow.
- Measure service performance indicators including on-time delivery, damage rates, and transit times, and connect those results to cost and revenue outcomes.
- Break down logistics costs at the shipment, route, warehouse, and customer level, covering items such as fuel, tolls, wages, maintenance, rent, labor, inventory, freight charges, customs, and insurance.
- Compare actual spending against planned budgets to uncover cost leakage and other gaps.
- Create analytical models for cost per kilometer and cost per pallet.
- Review income by service line such as full truckload, less-than-truckload, warehousing, cross-docking, and value-added services.
- Assess profitability by customer, lane, and shipment.
- Spot revenue leakage, including billing mistakes and missed accessorial charges.
- Calculate each activity’s contribution to net income after assigning direct and indirect expenses.
- Develop dashboards and tracking tools for cost per delivery, revenue per route, and net margin by customer.
- Monitor results on a weekly and monthly basis and prepare variance analysis with recommended corrective actions.
Requirements
- A bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain, Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, or a closely related discipline.
- At least 3 to 5 years of experience in logistics operations, costing analysis, or performance analytics, suitable for a senior position.
- Strong command of analytical tools such as Excel, Power BI, or Tableau for reporting, dashboarding, and variance review.
- Hands-on experience building cost models, including cost-per-kilometer and cost-per-pallet calculations.
- Exposure to TMS or WMS platforms will be considered an added advantage.
- Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving ability, and close attention to detail.
- Capability to identify process bottlenecks and propose improvements that make operations more efficient.
- Good understanding of logistics cost drivers such as fuel, freight rates, warehousing, labor, customs, and insurance.
- Comfortable working across departments, including operations, finance, and sales.
