Position overview
The University of Toronto Scarborough’s Woodsworth College is hiring a Sessional Lecturer for EES3000H, Applied Conservation Biology. This role focuses on connecting conservation science with how conservation is carried out in Canada, including international commitments, federal and provincial laws and policy, and the contribution of environmental non-government organizations.

Schedule: Tuesdays from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM. The timetable is fixed, so applicants must be available at that time.
Appointment period: Duties are expected to run from September 1, 2026 to December 31, 2026.
What the course covers
The class examines how conservation principles are applied in Canada. Topics include the Convention on Biological Diversity, the Species at Risk Act, the Canadian Biodiversity Strategy, related provincial frameworks, and the role of ENGOs. Students will also explore the way scientific evidence informs conservation policy in Canada through lectures and panel discussions with experienced practitioners.
Duties
The instructor will be responsible for preparing and delivering lectures and labs, developing assessments, grading, managing marks, supervising the TA, and taking part in the student course-evaluation process.
Qualifications
Applicants should hold a PhD in Conservation Biology, Ecology, or a closely related discipline and have university-level teaching experience.
Preferred candidates will also have taught conservation-related courses at the graduate level and/or worked professionally in conservation within government, industry, or the non-profit sector.
Pay and employment terms
Compensation is governed by the CUPE 3902 Unit 3 Collective Agreement between the University of Toronto and CUPE Local 3902. For half courses effective September 1, 2025, the listed inclusive vacation-pay rates are:
- Sessional Lecturer I: $9,820.70
- Sessional Lecturer I - Long Term: $10,510.04
- Sessional Lecturer II: $10,510.40
- Sessional Lecturer II - Long Term: $10,760.23
- Sessional Lecturer III: $10,760.23
- Sessional Lecturer III - Long Term: $11,030.34
If the collective agreement provides a different amount, the agreement will take precedence. The role is posted under the CUPE 3902 Unit 3 agreement, and hiring preference is given to qualified individuals at the Sessional Lecturer II or III rank in line with Article 14:12.
