Role overview
This role is for a Shift Supervisor who will take full ownership of a shift production team operating across three main manufacturing teams. The position follows a rotating shift pattern and is centered on keeping production on track, maintaining standards, and leading the team to deliver strong operational results.
Key responsibilities
- Lead the shift to meet daily production targets and support on-time customer deliveries.
- Monitor product quality, control operating costs, and maintain consistent output standards.
- Run daily shift meetings to share production data, highlight performance gaps, and agree corrective actions.
- Manage workflow across the shop floor by deploying available crew effectively across all manufacturing teams.
- Make sure standard operating procedures are followed at every stage of the manufacturing process.
- Promote a continuous improvement mindset aligned with the company’s Lean manufacturing approach.
- Coordinate the movement of materials, equipment, and resources to keep production balanced and uninterrupted.
- Improve team performance through coaching, feedback, counselling, and training.
- Handle operational HR matters such as attendance, holiday scheduling, and disciplinary concerns.
- Play a leading role in preventative maintenance planning and related interventions.
- Implement health and safety policies to maintain a safe working environment.
- Report near misses and accidents immediately in line with health and safety procedures.
- Support and reinforce the 6S programme across the factory floor.
- Ensure all required shop routing cards, inspection test plans, paint reports, and other production paperwork are completed accurately and on time.
Requirements
- Previous manufacturing experience in an engineering and fabrication setting.
- At least 5 years of supervisory or leadership experience.
- Exposure to Lean manufacturing principles is beneficial.
- Strong focus on performance, results, and operational delivery.
- Excellent leadership and communication abilities, with the capacity to develop and support employees.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
- Experience with MIG, TIG, blasting, and painting would be an advantage.
- Solid experience reading and interpreting engineering drawings.
- Experience operating cranes and forklifts.
