Slitting Machine Operator

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Slitting Machine Operator to join our team. This role is crucial for overseeing the entire slitting process, ensuring high productivity, quality standards, and adherence to safety protocols. You will be responsible for managing the operation, maintenance, and output of slitting machines that cut large rolls of metal into precise narrower rolls as per client specifications.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage and organize all slitting operations in alignment with the production schedule, ensuring timely completion of jobs and achievement of production targets.
• Optimize machine performance and overall productivity.
• Liaise with production planning and warehouse departments to ensure the smooth availability of raw materials.
• Set up and fine-tune slitting machine parameters, including blade positioning, tension, and roll alignment, to meet specific job requirements.
• Oversee machine operators and support staff during the production process.
• Address and resolve operational challenges to minimize any disruptions or downtime.
• Ensure that all slit rolls conform to the required width, length, and quality standards through regular inspections.
• Identify and address defects such as wrinkles, telescoping, uneven edges, or improper winding.
• Maintain comprehensive quality records and generate necessary reports.
• Assign tasks to machine operators and assistants, and provide training to new hires on machine operation and safety protocols.
• Monitor the performance and productivity of the shop floor team.
• Foster a collaborative and disciplined work environment.
• Ensure strict adherence to all safety regulations and conduct pre-operation safety checks.
• Verify the correct usage of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) by all staff.
• Report and participate in the investigation of any accidents or near-miss incidents.
• Conduct routine inspections of machinery and coordinate preventive maintenance activities with the maintenance team.
• Report machine malfunctions and follow up on repair progress.
• Maintain detailed logs for machine usage and maintenance activities.
• Confirm the specifications of raw materials before commencing production.
• Monitor material usage to minimize waste.
• Ensure accurate identification and proper storage of finished slit rolls.
• Keep meticulous records of production output and inventory levels.
• Prepare daily production reports, document machine downtime and its causes, and track data related to waste, rejections, and overall efficiency.
• Compile shift handover reports and production summaries.
