Job description
About the role
Affirm is building a more transparent credit experience that helps people buy now and pay later without hidden charges or compounding interest.
This opening is aimed at new graduates with a degree in computer science or a closely related discipline who want to apply their technical training to meaningful products in financial services.
This is a hybrid early-career program. You will be matched with an experienced Affirmer and will work together in person three days each week from either the New York City or San Francisco office. The setup is designed to combine the collaboration of office work with the flexibility of remote work. After the first year, you may continue in a hybrid setup, move fully remote, or remain office-based. Roles are available across multiple teams and technology stacks so candidates can find a strong fit for their career start.
What you will do
- Support team initiatives by taking on work that advances project deliverables and business objectives.
- Partner closely with teammates and internal stakeholders, keeping them informed and contributing to clear discussion about risks, trade-offs, and progress.
- Balance delivery speed with software quality so business targets are met without compromising system stability.
- Help strengthen team culture by participating in learning, development, and community-building efforts.
What we are looking for
- Ability to turn a straightforward problem or business need into a solution that spans several software components, then implement it with clean, maintainable, well-tested, and extensible code.
- Comfort working in a large codebase, troubleshooting issues in code written by others, and giving thoughtful feedback during code reviews.
- A habit of taking ownership of personal growth by actively seeking feedback from teammates, managers, and stakeholders.
- Strong written and spoken communication skills that support collaboration across a global engineering organization.
- Either relevant practical experience or a bachelor’s degree in a related field is required.
Compensation and benefits
This role is placed at Pay Grade J and Equity Grade 5. New hires usually start near the lower end of the pay band, and compensation is set using factors such as location, experience, and role-specific skills.
Base compensation is part of a broader package that may also include equity, monthly stipends for health, wellness, and technology expenses, and benefits such as fully subsidized medical, dental, and vision coverage for employees and dependents.
The listed annual base pay range is $130,000 to $180,000 for California, Washington, New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut. For all other U.S. states, the annual base pay range is $115,000 to $165,000.
Benefits
- Medical coverage with all premiums paid by Affirm for employees and dependents across every coverage tier.
- Flexible spending wallets with generous allowances for technology, food, lifestyle expenses, and family-forming costs.
- Competitive vacation and holiday policies to support rest and recharge time.
- Employee stock purchase plan that allows buying Affirm shares at a discounted price.
Additional information
Visa sponsorship is not offered for this position.
Affirm operates as a remote-first company. Most roles can be performed from almost anywhere in the country of employment. Employees in proximal roles may work remotely but will sometimes need to report to their assigned office. Some positions remain office-based because of job requirements.
Affirm is committed to an inclusive interview process and can provide reasonable accommodations for candidates who need individualized support during hiring.
For roles in Los Angeles or San Francisco, qualified applicants with arrest or conviction records will be considered in line with applicable fair chance hiring ordinances.
By submitting an application, you confirm that you have reviewed the Global Candidate Privacy Notice and consent to the collection, processing, use, and storage of your personal information as described there.
