Job description

Role overview

As a Stowage Planner with A.P. Moller - Maersk in Singapore, you will help complete the final stage of the logistics chain by building safe, efficient vessel stowage plans that support smooth global trade. The role focuses on maximizing vessel utilisation while protecting crew, cargo, ship integrity, and operational safety.

You will work in a fast-paced, international setting with direct exposure to real-time decision-making, multiple stakeholders, and specialist systems. The position offers the chance to strengthen your expertise in shipping operations and contribute directly to the movement of cargo worldwide.

What the role involves

  • Plan container placement on vessels so the load pattern is seaworthy, safe, and operationally efficient.
  • Ensure dangerous goods are separated correctly, crane access is optimized, weight is balanced, and stability and stress limits are respected.
  • Maintain high stowage standards that support maximum vessel utilisation with minimal operating cost.
  • Track the stowage process end to end and coordinate with stakeholders across different time zones and operational windows.
  • Assess whether a vessel is suitable for a service based on trade needs and vessel-specific characteristics.
  • Review and refine standard operating procedures regularly to improve team and stakeholder performance.
  • Collaborate with internal and external teams such as terminals, regional operations, ship commands, nautical teams, and network/deployment teams to keep operations running smoothly.
  • Spot potential operational risks early and follow up on actions that help prevent or reduce disruption from contingencies.

Working style and expectations

This position follows non-standard working hours and may involve a rotational night shift roughly once every six weeks when operationally required, especially around important berthing windows.

Success in this role requires independence, accountability, strong organization, adaptability, and the ability to move quickly in a changing environment. Clear communication, teamwork, and comfort working across cultures are important. You should also be ready to learn new technologies and operating systems, as the job involves working with multiple tools and software platforms. Maersk will provide training, and selected candidates must pass both the Basic Theory Assessment and the Basic Stowage Proficiency Assessment.
