About the role
This is a permanent full-time support role based in Oamaru, with more than 65 hours scheduled per fortnight. The roster can include morning, afternoon, sleepover, and weekend shifts. The position offers the chance to earn while learning, along with access to nationally recognised qualifications.
As a Support Worker, you will assist people with intellectual disabilities to live well at home and participate in their communities. The work is varied and meaningful, and it gives you room to use creativity to make each day engaging and meaningful for the people you support.
What you will do
- Support people to build independence and develop everyday living skills such as using public transport, finding work, cooking, and other practical tasks.
- Help with daily personal routines including showering, dressing, taking medication, and eating meals.
- Encourage people to work toward their personal goals, interests, and hobbies.
- Support healthy habits and positive lifestyle choices.
- Help people maintain strong relationships with their whānau and wider community.
What we are looking for
A genuine interest in building a career as a Support Worker, along with a positive mindset and a willingness to learn, is highly valued. Full training and orientation will be provided.
- You must be available for flexible rostered shifts, including weekends and sleepover duties.
- You should be confident using computers and tablets as part of your daily work.
- Strong written and spoken communication skills are important.
- You need to be physically fit enough to provide hands-on support when required.
- A full New Zealand driver licence is required.

- Hourly pay of $24.68 to $30.13, depending on relevant qualifications, with scope to increase earnings as qualifications are completed.
