Job description

Role Overview

The Team Leader supports the Store Manager and Assistant Store Manager in carrying out operational, sales, and merchandising goals while creating a standout customer experience. This role also helps maintain a safe, efficient store environment for team members, shoppers, and vendors, and includes coaching staff on proper policy and procedure use.

Key Responsibilities

  • Keep attendance consistent and dependable.
  • Be available for scheduled shifts and flexible to work different hours, days, nights, weekends, and overtime based on business needs.
  • Support a safe, productive workplace by following and reinforcing company policies and procedures.
  • Deliver excellent service using the GURA customer experience approach: greet customers, identify needs and wants, suggest solutions, and thank/appreciate the customer.
  • Carry out a wide mix of daily store duties, with most of the shift spent actively performing the role’s core functions.
  • Complete basic, promotional, and seasonal merchandising tasks.
  • Handle opening and closing responsibilities.
  • Transport deposits and make bank deposits as needed.
  • Review store conditions and assign work accordingly.
  • Plan and prioritize tasks using the daily planner.
  • Recover and straighten merchandise.
  • Take part in the required freight process.
  • Process regular and promotional price changes.
  • Address customer complaints and concerns to ensure a differentiated shopping experience.
  • Follow loss prevention standards and respond to alarms when required.
  • Communicate with team members about job duties, responsibilities, and financial goals.
  • Supervise cash handling while operating the register/computer.
  • Help team members apply policies and procedures correctly.
  • Care for birds and poultry as required, including sanitizing and maintaining poultry holding tanks.
  • Operate a forklift and baler.
  • Complete documentation related to assigned duties.
  • Obtain any licenses or certifications required by the business.
  • Carry out other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Retail experience is preferred; experience or knowledge in farming, ranching, pets/equine, or welding is also strongly valued.
  • Previous supervisory experience is preferred.
  • Applicants must be at least 18 years old and have a valid driver’s license.
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred, though it is not mandatory.
  • Regardless of education, the candidate must be able to read, write, and count accurately.

Working Conditions

  • The role is typically performed indoors in a moderately noisy environment.
  • Shifts vary by store and are generally at least 4 hours, sometimes longer than 8 hours.
  • The work environment includes indoor hard flooring and outdoor lots with adequate lighting and temperature conditions.
  • Outdoor work may be required in adverse weather.
  • This is a non-sedentary position.

Physical Requirements

  • Move and transfer merchandise weighing up to 50 pounds across the store.
  • Push and pull merchandise up to 2,000 pounds using suitable material-handling equipment.
  • Lift or reach overhead on occasion.
  • Frequently stand, kneel, twist, crouch, squat, bend, stoop, and climb ladders.
  • Move throughout the store for an entire shift.
  • Access all store areas, including the selling floor, side lot, stock area, and register area.
  • Use store equipment such as dollies, hand trucks, forklifts, balers, computers, and cash registers; forklift and baler requirements do not apply to those under 18.
  • Continuously operate equipment such as computers and cash registers.
  • Process merchandise and information through the point-of-sale system.
  • Work around and handle birds/poultry.
  • Complete propane dispensing training and certification, and dispense propane when required; this does not apply to those under 18.
  • Finish all required training and any additional certification needed for business purposes.
  • Travel as needed to support district requirements.
  • Drive or operate a vehicle for business needs.

Full-time and part-time team members may be eligible for a broader rewards package that can include medical, dental, and vision coverage, company-paid life and disability insurance, paid parental leave, tuition reimbursement, and family planning support such as adoption and surrogacy assistance. Part-time new hires become eligible for TSC benefits by averaging at least 15 hours per week during the 90-day lookback period. That lookback starts on the first day of the month after hire, and if the 15-hour threshold is met, benefits begin on the first day of the month after 4 months of continuous service.
