This opportunity is with Alpheya, a B2B wealth technology startup in Abu Dhabi, supported by BNY Mellon and Lunate. The business has secured $300M in funding to create a modern wealth-tech platform. Its goal is to help clients expand their wealth businesses through distinctive experiences, financial products, and data-driven insights. The platform is designed to help banks and other financial institutions across the Middle East reach and serve affluent, high-net-worth, and ultra-high-net-worth investors more effectively. Although the company benefits from the scale and expertise of large backers, it operates with a startup mindset and cross-functional, agile teams.

About the Role

The organization is looking for Tech Leads to guide engineering teams of 4 to 8 engineers. In this role, you own the technical outcomes for your team. Your work will be heavily hands-on: most of your time will be spent writing and reviewing code, while also shaping technical direction, ensuring delivery, and maintaining the engineering health of your team. This is not a pure management role and does require active coding.

What You’ll Do

• Define the technical direction for your team’s area and stand behind the choices made.
• Contribute production-ready code on a regular basis, including in the most complex areas of the system.
• Review every team member’s code and use those reviews to coach and develop others.
• Work with the Product Owner to plan delivery, decompose work, manage risk, and challenge scope when necessary.
• Take end-to-end ownership of incidents in your domain and coordinate with other teams when needed.
• Support the growth of engineers on your team, including providing candid performance feedback when appropriate.
• Act as the technical representative for your team when dealing with partners, vendors, and senior stakeholders.

What We’re Looking For

• Deep expertise in at least one core stack, specifically TypeScript or Go, with the ability to become productive in the other.
• Experience owning a service or product area in production for multiple quarters.
• Proven ability to deliver in a startup or scale-up environment where priorities and requirements change often.
• Comfort handling difficult aspects of leadership, such as giving tough feedback, pushing back on senior stakeholders, and making calls in ambiguous situations.
• Practical use of AI coding tools as a team productivity multiplier, not just a personal shortcut.

Nice to Have

• Background in fintech, banking, or another regulated industry.
• Experience working on partner-led delivery, especially integrations with banks, asset managers, or platform vendors.

• Ability to read unfamiliar codebases, including internal systems, partner code, SDK consumers, and code produced by AI tools.
• Strong implementation skills: you can turn ideas into clean, production-grade code.
• Engineering rigor: you debug methodically, investigate properly instead of guessing, and use available tools, including AI, effectively.
• Startup mindset: you are comfortable with ambiguity, own outcomes, and do not wait to be told what to do next.
