Job description
Role overview
B&Q Ireland is hiring a Trading Team Manager designate for the ROI area, covering Athlone and Galway. The position is offered as a permanent contract with a weekly working time of 36.75 hours. The pay is up to €45,000 per year, with bonus, pension, and 7 weeks of holiday including bank holidays. The role may suit someone looking for full-time, part-time, or job-share arrangements.
As a designate manager, you will spend around 3 to 6 months working across a cluster of stores before moving into a department or store that fits your background. During this period, some travel and flexibility will be needed as you gain experience across different store formats and management practices.
About the opportunity
The purpose of the role is to help deliver strong commercial performance on the sales floor while coaching colleagues so the store team can better serve customers. The manager is expected to help create an inclusive, high-performing environment where customers receive a great in-store experience.
The organisation places strong emphasis on developing leaders internally and also brings in designate managers to add fresh experience and perspective. This role is part of that approach and is designed to build future store leaders through structured exposure and training.
Key responsibilities
- Take ownership of commercial performance on the core trading sales floor, including stock control, range updates, and promotional activity.
- Review performance regularly using sales figures, loyalty information, and customer feedback to guide decisions.
- Coach and support colleagues so they deepen their product knowledge and create better customer interactions.
What the role calls for
The business is looking for someone who can lead a team effectively and keep store operations running smoothly through strong stock management routines and customer service focus. The ideal person will be comfortable developing others rather than doing everything personally, and will approach the role with a process-driven mindset.
- You should feel confident coaching others and helping people perform at their best.
- You need to lead through others rather than simply completing tasks yourself.
- A strong appreciation for process and availability planning is important.
- Good organisation and forward planning are essential.
Benefits
- Competitive annual salary up to €45,000.
- Company bonus scheme.
- Award-winning pension scheme.
- ShareSave options.
- 7 weeks of holiday, bank holidays included.
- Employee Assistance Programme.
- Shopping discounts.
- Colleague wellbeing support and additional benefits.
Diversity and support
B&Q Ireland says it is committed to building a more diverse and representative workplace where colleagues feel they belong and have equal opportunity. Employees also have access to networks for colleagues and allies that support inclusion across the business.
If you need adjustments during the application or interview process, you can request support from the recruitment team.
Additional information
This is a permanent position with 36.75 hours per week. The job is based in Galway, County Galway, Ireland, and the designate assignment covers Athlone and Galway. The role requires flexibility and travel during the initial designate period before placement in a suitable store or department.
