Job description

About the role

NRB Consulting Engineers is looking for an experienced Traffic Engineer to join its Ireland-based traffic and transportation consultancy. The firm focuses on design, analysis, and advisory work for private sector clients. This position is suited to someone with at least 4 years of experience in transportation system design, analysis, and delivery for private developments.

What you will do

In this role, you will take the lead on traffic impact studies, develop intersection and signal designs, and work closely with other disciplines to help improve road safety and traffic movement. The projects span large residential developments for major property developers, as well as hotels and a range of commercial and mixed-use schemes.

Core responsibilities

You will be expected to carry out traffic modelling and analysis, prepare scheme designs from early feasibility stages through to construction, and support client communication and reporting. A strong understanding of local and national standards will be important throughout the delivery of projects.

Technical work

  • Perform traffic impact assessments and capacity studies using relevant industry software.
  • Develop functional layouts for intersections, traffic signals, and transport schemes.
  • Support planning and delivery of transportation solutions from concept stage to construction.
  • Apply traffic engineering methods to improve safety, efficiency, and mobility on roadway projects.

Coordination and communication

  • Work directly with clients and coordinate with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Prepare clear reports and project documentation.
  • Ensure designs and recommendations align with applicable local and national guidance.

Required background

The role requires a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Transportation Engineering. A Chartered Engineer title is preferred, or you should be actively working toward it. Experience with road safety auditing is welcome, though not mandatory. Relevant Irish experience is important for this position.

Tools and standards

Practical experience with PICADY, ARCADY, and LINSIG is required. You should also have a strong working knowledge of DMURS, DMRB, and TTA guidelines, along with the ability to collaborate effectively and write strong technical reports.

Benefits

The company offers a competitive salary, performance-based bonus, retirement benefits, and paid professional membership. You will also receive professional development support and a clear route for career progression. The role is based in the Republic of Ireland with remote working available, and you will be mentored by senior Chartered Engineers.
