Job description

Role overview

Neste is hiring a Trainee Technician for its Refinery Operations Shift Team in Tuas, Singapore. The role is part of a fixed-term 12-month training contract designed to build the practical and classroom-based skills needed for refinery operations.

Successful trainees who complete the programme and pass it will be offered a permanent Trainee Technician position, where they will support the safe and dependable operation of the refinery. Strong performers can build a long-term career with Neste.

About the company

Neste is a global leader in renewable diesel and sustainable aviation fuel. The company works to help customers lower greenhouse gas emissions and is focused on sustainability, circular economy solutions, and renewable fuel production across refineries on three continents. Neste reported EUR 20.6 billion in revenue in 2024 and aims to expand annual renewable fuels production capacity to 6.8 million tons in 2027.

Why join Neste

You will be part of an evolving international business environment with a strong focus on safety, teamwork, learning, and personal growth. Neste’s culture is built around care, courage, and cooperation, with an emphasis on flexibility, smart ways of working, and continuous development.

Training and progression

The selected candidate will undergo a structured 12-month programme combining classroom learning with hands-on training. The goal is to prepare the trainee to carry out refinery duties confidently and independently after completion of the development plan.

Key duties

  • Follow Life Saving Rules and apply critical process-safety practices.
  • Complete the competency development programme for the assigned field area and carry out routine tasks under the supervision of a senior team member or peer.
  • Actively seek guidance and support from experienced colleagues to strengthen learning and performance.
  • Work independently on routine tasks once competency requirements are completed in the assigned area.
  • Understand and use Lock-Out-Tag-Out procedures and prepare a blinding plan for a single piece of equipment.

What the employer is looking for

Applicants should have an Nitec or Diploma qualification in any engineering discipline. Candidates are expected to be able to commit to a 1-year training programme that includes both classroom instruction and on-the-job learning. The role also requires willingness to work 12-hour rotating shifts and comfort with outdoor working conditions.

The ideal candidate communicates well, works collaboratively with the operations team, shows initiative, maintains a responsible and positive approach, and has a strong safety mindset. Prior work experience of at least 2 years in other industries is preferred. Male applicants must have completed National Service.

Selection and joining conditions

Applications are requested by 30 June 2026. Submissions must be made through the company’s recruitment system; email applications will not be accepted. Shortlisted candidates can expect a response within 2 weeks after the application period closes. The selection process may include interviews and an aptitude assessment. The final hire must successfully pass a health examination, including a drug test, and security clearance will be obtained with consent.

Additional note

This opportunity is based in Singapore and is intended for candidates who can work onsite at the refinery.
