Job description

Role overview

We are seeking an Emirati UAV operator to support the development of advanced tactical and ISR unmanned aircraft systems. Reporting to the Chief UAV Test Pilot, this position combines flight-test operations with hands-on technical integration work. The right candidate will be comfortable operating UAV platforms, assisting with system build-up and validation, and contributing practical engineering support throughout testing.

What you will do

  • Help prepare and run UAV flight tests in line with test plans, safety requirements, and performance goals.
  • Carry out pre-flight inspections, participate in briefing sessions, and assist with post-flight reviews under the supervision of the Chief UAV Test Pilot.
  • Operate multiple UAV types, including fixed-wing, VTOL, and Drone-in-a-Box platforms, for evaluation and validation purposes.
  • Support verification of software updates, payload setups, and avionics changes.
  • Take part in integration work for sensors, communications equipment, avionics modules, and mission payloads.
  • Perform practical technical tasks such as wiring checks, hardware installation, calibration, and basic UAV upkeep.
  • Diagnose issues during ground and flight testing and share quick technical feedback with engineering teams.
  • Work closely with design, software, and hardware teams to help integrate new technologies smoothly.
  • Contribute to test planning, test cards, and technical procedures for ground and airborne activities.
  • Capture and review test data, and provide structured observations to support engineering decisions.
  • Document integration tasks and technical outcomes to support iterative development.
  • Follow aviation rules, operational policies, and safety standards at all times.
  • Take part in risk assessments and help improve test safety practices.
  • Maintain clear communication with the Chief UAV Test Pilot and cross-functional teams.
  • Prepare test logs and detailed reports to support ongoing improvement and rapid development cycles.

What we are looking for

  • 1 to 2 years of aviation experience, with UAV experience preferred.
  • Hands-on UAV exposure is strongly preferred.
  • Alternative experience in RC modelling with fixed-wing or rotary-wing systems is acceptable.
  • General aviation experience is also considered, including LSA or GA pilots with 100+ flight hours.
  • Strong technical experience in robotics, electronics, avionics, or hardware integration is required.
  • Ability to troubleshoot systems, verify wiring, set up hardware, and perform diagnostics at system level.
  • A bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a closely related engineering field is required.
  • Proven reliability, accountability, and composure in demanding, high-pressure situations.
  • Ability to learn new technologies quickly and apply them effectively.
  • Comfort with hands-on technical work, including basic maintenance and fault-finding on UAVs.
  • Willingness to work in fast-moving environments and in challenging outdoor weather conditions.
  • Certification or a relevant qualification from an aviation authority such as FAA, EASA, or ICAO is an advantage.
