Job description
About the Company
Activate Interactive Pte Ltd is a Singapore-based technology consultancy with operations in Malaysia and Indonesia. The company delivers end-to-end digital solutions, including mobile and web application development as well as cloud-based technologies, helping clients overcome technology challenges and improve operational efficiency.
Activate is focused on using technology to create positive outcomes for people and the environment, while building a workplace where employees can grow, contribute, and innovate.
This role sits within a talent pipeline initiative. It is intended to build connections with candidates for opportunities expected to open over the next 3 to 6 months. This is not an immediate vacancy, but suitable candidates may be considered first when positions become available.
Role Overview
The team designs and develops software products that help government agencies deliver better digital services to Singaporeans. The UX Designer will lead the experience design of AI-enabled public sector products and services, applying design thinking to solve complex, multi-stakeholder problems. The goal is to create solutions that are easy to use, transparent, and aligned with policy and operational requirements.
The right person should be able to work with limited supervision, influence product direction, and raise the overall quality of design practice across the organisation.
Key Responsibilities
- Work with the scrum team and partner government agencies to shape product and design decisions.
- Lead end-to-end experience design for public-sector digital products, including AI-enabled services.
- Apply design thinking to simplify complex workflows and multi-stakeholder challenges.
- Create user journeys, workflows, information structures, and interaction patterns that make services easier to understand and use.
- Support the improvement of digital experiences for both agency users and the public.
- Use research, feedback, and activity data to guide design choices and refine solutions over time.
- Collaborate with designers, engineers, product managers, and stakeholders to test, prototype, ship, and improve features.
- Present design recommendations and strategies clearly to leadership and other stakeholders.
- Identify opportunities to improve the product experience, increase efficiency, and promote reusable design across products.
What Success Looks Like
Within the first month, you are expected to understand the product strategy, assess the current UX landscape, and contribute design screens for active sprints.
By the third month, you should have gathered requirements, co-created with stakeholders and the scrum team, tested and prototyped a feature, and shipped at least one new product enhancement.
By around six months, you are expected to have led research to identify at least one growth opportunity or improvement path for the product, working closely with designers, engineers, and product managers.
Requirements
- A strong product- and user-focused mindset.
- Interest in using technology to serve the public.
- Ability to turn complexity into clear journeys, workflows, information architecture, and interaction designs.
- Confidence in balancing user needs, business priorities, and technical constraints while making practical trade-offs.
- Experience using research and data to support design decisions.
- Ability to present design direction and rationale clearly to leadership and stakeholders.
- Comfort with analysing user feedback and behaviour, then iterating to improve the experience.
- Skill in transforming complicated tasks into intuitive, accessible, and simple-to-use designs.
- Strong attention to detail and solid problem-solving ability.
- Proficiency with design and prototyping tools such as Figma and Miro.
- Experience working in agile, cross-functional product teams; frontend development knowledge is an advantage.
- At least 6 to 8 years of professional experience in UX, interaction design, or product design, backed by a strong portfolio showing complex problem-solving.
- Exposure to AI-driven experiences.
- Understanding of accessibility requirements, including WCAG, and the ability to design for varied user groups.
Benefits
- Market-aligned compensation with a variable performance bonus tied to skills, contribution, and impact.
- Outpatient medical coverage, specialist medical coverage, customisable flexi benefits or flexi allowance, and life and health insurance.
- Additional thoughtful perks such as red packets for special occasions and Chinese New Year goodies.
- Wellness support through initiatives that care for physical, mental, and overall well-being.
- Learning and development support, including training programmes, certification assistance, and a dedicated staff development budget.
- Clear growth paths through either a technical/domain expert track or a leadership track.
- A structured competency framework designed to help employees develop, perform, and succeed.
- Flexible work arrangements with options for flexi-place, flexi-time, and flexi-load under the company framework.
