Job description

About the company

Bending Spoons aims to build a company with exceptional long-term impact: one that reaches a very large customer base, helps its people develop to their full potential, operates with outstanding effectiveness and efficiency, and creates strong value for shareholders while maintaining high ethical standards. The business acquires and improves digital products to own and run them for the long haul, making substantial changes that accelerate innovation, improve customer outcomes, and strengthen performance. Teams are intentionally small, talent-dense, and run with minimal hierarchy, combining the pace and urgency of a startup with the stability of established products. AI is deeply embedded into everyday work so human judgment and machine intelligence work together.

Role overview

This position is for a driven, collaborative UX/UI designer who can contribute to fast-moving product work, create high-quality digital experiences, and help the team move from uncertainty to execution quickly. The role involves working closely with product and engineering partners, using modern AI tools to speed up thinking, prototyping, and implementation, and focusing on product changes that create meaningful business impact.

What you will do

  • Design strong UX and UI solutions from early-stage ideas through to final delivery, using modern tools to explore multiple directions quickly and raise the quality of the output.
  • Use AI tools at the start of the process to clarify goals, prepare short specifications, and uncover risks, edge cases, and possible approaches before moving into design software.
  • Build interactive prototypes and production-oriented frontend code with AI-assisted tools such as Cursor and Claude Code, switching between coding and Figma depending on what will produce the best result.
  • Work alongside product managers and engineers from the beginning of a project, define UX needs early, remain involved through QA and release, and make design choices that account for engineering realities.
  • Test and refine ideas by speaking directly with customers, running rapid experiments, and using funnel, retention, and adoption data to evaluate impact.
  • Identify the most valuable opportunities in the backlog, align stakeholders around them, and move quickly to ship improvements that unlock business value.

What the company is looking for

The ideal candidate thinks clearly, reasons from first principles, and can solve complex problems when given the necessary context. You should be ambitious, self-driven, persistent, and highly accountable for your work. Strong teamwork matters as well: you should support the best idea, be willing to help wherever needed, and communicate with honesty and transparency. Proficiency in English is required for reading, writing, and speaking.

Compensation and benefits

The company offers access to equity for eligible permanent hires, with pay that varies by location, experience, and expected impact. For people with limited experience, the typical annual salary is €66,065 in Europe outside London and £85,797 in London. For candidates assessed as having substantial relevant experience, compensation generally ranges from €107,837 to €188,848 outside London and £112,189 to £250,512 in London. In exceptional cases, pay may exceed those ranges. Permanent hires may also receive part of their compensation in company equity at a discounted price. If relocating to Italy, a 50% tax cut may apply.

Additional benefits include flexible hours, remote work, unlimited learning and training support, top-tier health insurance, a strong relocation package, generous parental support, and an annual retreat to a scenic destination.

Commitment and contract

This is a full-time position available on either a permanent or fixed-term contract.

Location and work setup

The role can be based in Milan, London, Madrid, Warsaw, or worked remotely from selected approved countries. To help new hires ramp up quickly, the company recommends spending the first few months working from the Milan office, even if the long-term arrangement is elsewhere. Travel and accommodation support is provided for this period. After onboarding, employees may work from the Milan or London offices, or remotely from approved countries, depending on what is agreed at the offer stage.

Selection process

The hiring process focuses on evidence of excellence rather than seniority. Every candidate is assessed through the same screening flow, and strong applications are evaluated on their own merits. If selected, applicants will complete one or more challenging tests, which may involve unfamiliar problems and can take several hours. The company notes that jobs can stay open for a long time or be reposted multiple times because it waits to find the right person.

Before you apply

Candidates who previously applied and were not selected are encouraged to wait at least one year before reapplying. The company describes itself as demanding and highly ambitious, with a culture that expects substantial commitment in exchange for strong learning, achievement, and career growth. Reasonable accommodations are available for people with disabilities.

Application notes

Applications must be submitted through the company’s careers page to be considered. If you believe you can succeed in the role over time, you are encouraged not to rule yourself out because of a non-ideal background or limited experience.
