Job description
About the Role
The Vice President of Operations will provide strategic leadership and clear direction for manufacturing facilities within a designated product category. This role is focused on ensuring excellent operational performance across the assigned locations, with responsibility spanning multiple sites.
The main objective is to deliver safe, world-class manufacturing results with zero quality defects, perfect on-time delivery, and continuous year-over-year productivity gains that reduce operating costs and capital spending. Success in this position depends on leading Directors of Operations and working effectively within a matrixed functional organization.
This leader will own key performance outcomes for the product category across safety, quality, delivery, revenue, profit, and cash flow. The role also contributes to manufacturing strategy, footprint expansion or consolidation, major product transfers, and the consistent rollout of the Integer Production System. Customer interaction may also be part of the job as needed.
Core Responsibilities
- Follow company values and comply with all safety, environmental, security, and quality obligations, including QMS, safety and environmental management systems, FDA requirements, company procedures, and other applicable regulations.
- Direct Directors of Operations and plant leadership teams in managing factory operations across safety, quality, production, engineering, supply chain, facilities, and continuous improvement.
- Promote the company’s quality policy and patient-first mindset, while ensuring proper use of quality systems and customer change control processes.
- Own quality performance for the product category and drive continuous improvement efforts that strengthen QA/RA metrics across the business.
- Build a culture of continuous improvement by leading cost reduction initiatives, including implementation of the Integer Production System and other lean methods.
- Work with internal teams to identify and spread best practices, standardize policies and processes, and support enterprise-wide business and strategic goals.
- Partner with the Product Category President to lead annual budget planning and deliver agreed financial targets.
- Work closely with Finance to review operational financial performance, identify risks and corrective actions, and guide Operations Directors toward financial goals.
- Develop and lead a strong leadership team through hiring, coaching, mentoring, performance management, succession planning, and bench-strength development.
- Oversee global manufacturing capacity planning and utilization to meet business needs and support a strong sales and operations planning process.
- Build deep knowledge of the company’s products, technologies, and site capabilities, and stay current on new technologies that may apply.
- Contribute to growth teams and help shape product strategy and manufacturing roadmaps across the product category.
- Partner with Commercial teams on customer relationship management, business development reviews, and evaluation of business cases.
- Handle additional duties as needed.
Education and Experience
A bachelor’s degree in Operations Management, Engineering, or a related technical field is required; a master’s degree is preferred. The position calls for 8 to 10 years of senior management experience in a manufacturing environment, with healthcare or another regulated industry and multi-plant leadership preferred.
The ideal candidate has a proven record of leading operations teams, building high-performing manufacturing organizations, and delivering quality products on schedule and within budget. Strong continuous improvement experience and hands-on expertise with lean manufacturing are also expected.
The role requires solid business judgment and the ability to understand P&L and balance sheet performance. The successful candidate should lead with integrity, build trust, communicate openly, and show genuine concern for people.
Skills and Competencies
This role requires strong talent development, interpersonal influence, communication, customer focus, technical communication, public speaking, meeting leadership, urgency, prioritization, and the ability to operate effectively in a demanding environment. Comfort with direct feedback, global travel, relocation as needed, and experience with Kaizen and Lean manufacturing are also important.
Benefits
The compensation package includes base pay and a cash incentive program tied to performance. Vice President level employees and above may also receive stock awards as part of annual compensation.
Benefits are available immediately and include medical, dental, vision, disability, life insurance, and adoption support. Parental leave becomes available after one year. Optional employee-paid coverage includes supplemental life insurance, critical illness, hospital indemnity, and accident insurance.
