Job description
Role overview
Builder Methods is seeking a Video Editor & Creative Producer to collaborate directly with the founder on the company’s YouTube channel and broader video strategy. This is not a simple assembly job where footage is passed along and returned as a finished cut; it is a hands-on creative partnership that blends editing, producing, and storytelling.
The channel’s creative direction is meant to combine documentary-level narrative craft with strong technical depth. The aim is to create polished, thoughtful videos about building software with AI — work that feels more like premium storytelling than hype-driven tutorial content. This position begins as a part-time retainer and is expected to have a path toward full-time work as the channel expands.
Builder Methods focuses on helping developers, founders, and technical teams build software through AI-powered workflows. Its flagship offering, Builder Methods Pro, includes a membership community, tools, courses, and a video library built around real project walkthroughs. The content approach is practical, opinionated, and grounded in real experience rather than trends. The audience includes both experienced builders and newer learners looking for credible ways to work with AI.
What the role involves
You will work directly with the founder on planning, storytelling, and production for each video. Projects may include longer documentary-style Build Films that capture a full project journey, shorter Spotlight Videos centered on a single tool or technique, and other formats as the channel develops.
Source material will come from actual software builds, including camera recordings, screen captures, and organized notes. Your job will be to turn that raw material into compelling videos that hold attention and communicate clearly.
A major part of the work is creating original visuals and graphics that match each script and storyboard. This includes code walkthroughs, architectural diagrams, UI demonstrations, and conceptual explainers, all of which should be designed from the ground up rather than assembled from templates or generic motion assets.
As the relationship grows, the role is expected to become a deeper producing partnership with more influence over what gets made, how stories are framed, and how the channel develops over time.
What success looks like
Within roughly 2–3 months, the ideal person will understand the material well enough to contribute beyond editing. They will be able to spot stronger story angles, identify the moments that will resonate most with viewers, and help improve the overall direction of content. The workflow from raw footage to published video should become smooth, while the founder stays focused on building and the producer-editor turns that work into standout content.
Skills and craft expected
The role calls for strong proficiency and a standout portfolio in areas such as editing, post-production, motion graphics, visual design, typography, color work, sound, and visual storytelling for technical subject matter.
What the founder values most
Above all, the ideal candidate brings taste and originality. Strong storytelling and production quality are viewed as major differentiators in AI and tech content, so the role suits someone who cares deeply about pacing, tone, visual rhythm, and the emotional feel of a video.
The founder is also looking for someone with a strong documentary instinct — someone who can watch a large amount of unscripted footage and quickly identify the real story, the weak sections, and the surprising moments worth building around.
Because the content is technical, the work also requires the ability to make code, terminal output, UI demos, and architecture visuals feel dynamic and engaging through motion, design, and pacing rather than relying on plain screen recordings with narration.
Independence matters as well. The role is best suited to someone who can take raw material and a rough structure, then make creative decisions with confidence instead of needing detailed direction on every edit.
Nice-to-have background
Experience with AI, developer, or other tech-focused content is helpful but not mandatory. A strong storyteller from another field — such as science, maker culture, independent film, or design — could also be a strong fit, provided they are eager to learn the space and understand the audience.
Technical familiarity is a plus. You do not need to code, but you should be able to follow conversations about software workflows, AI tools, and architecture well enough to tell which moments are genuinely insightful and which are routine. Experience building something with AI tools would be a bonus.
What matters less
The role does not depend heavily on growth hacking, thumbnail optimization, a specific editing program, or being in a particular time zone. The workflow is async-first, although time zones that overlap with North America are preferred to reduce delays. A portfolio full of YouTube tech work is not required if your editorial judgment and creative craft transfer well from other genres.
About the company
Builder Methods is building practical education and content for people using AI to make software. The brand serves a wide range of builders, from experienced engineers to ambitious newcomers, and aims to offer grounded, useful guidance rather than chase hype cycles. The channel is already growing, the audience is engaged, and the company sees this role as an opportunity to help shape the voice and visual identity of a brand at an important moment.
Application process
Applicants are asked to complete the application form and share details such as their primary motivation, website, LinkedIn profile, location, background, current focus, recent projects, current availability, how they heard about the role, and any additional information they want to include. For each of at least three recent projects, they should explain their role, approach, strategy, and why they chose to share the work, along with a link to view it.
Additional notes
This opportunity is being offered as a creative partnership rather than a conventional editing assignment. The ideal person will see themselves as helping build something meaningful in a fast-moving corner of the content world, supporting an audience of builders navigating the AI transition.
