Job description
Overview
Deloitte is seeking a Workday Payroll Consultant to support end-to-end payroll implementations within a broader Workday HCM transformation program. This permanent role is part of a collaborative consulting environment focused on designing scalable payroll solutions that meet client requirements, comply with legislation, and integrate smoothly with related HR and finance systems.
The role is based in Canada with a hybrid work model. Primary location is Toronto, ON, and the position may also be based in Fredericton, NB or other listed Canadian offices. Occasional travel to client sites may be needed depending on project demands.
Key Responsibilities
- Work directly with client payroll, HR, and finance teams to gather business requirements, understand legislation, and map current processes.
- Lead working sessions to design, configure, and refine Workday Payroll solutions aligned with business goals and industry practices.
- Coordinate with functional and technical specialists across HCM, Time Tracking, Absence, Benefits, Integrations, and Data Conversion.
- Help ensure payroll design connects properly with time, absence, benefits, and downstream financial systems.
- Spot project risks, blockers, and dependencies early, then partner with the Project Manager to address them while protecting delivery timelines.
- Contribute to system configuration, client advisory discussions, troubleshooting, and solution design in a fast-moving project setting.
Candidate Profile
- At least 3 years of practical experience in Canadian payroll operations, including payroll data handling, reconciliation, and compliance.
- Solid knowledge of HR, payroll, and benefits data structures, plus how upstream and downstream systems affect one another.
- Canadian Payroll Association certification such as PCP or CPM is preferred, or the candidate should be actively working toward it.
- Background in Workday Payroll or other cloud payroll platforms is an asset.
- Working knowledge of provincial and federal payroll legislation, including reporting and statutory compliance obligations.
- Ability to examine complex payroll situations and turn them into accurate system setups and process solutions.
- Strong troubleshooting, risk assessment, and problem-solving ability in a client-facing setting.
- Clear verbal and written communication skills for explaining technical topics to non-technical stakeholders.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to balance several priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
- Excellent analytical ability, careful attention to detail, and a commitment to accuracy, compliance, and process improvement.
Language Requirement
For positions based in Quebec, bilingualism in French and English is required because the role involves working with national and global clients and project teams.
Compensation and Benefits
The salary range for this role is $58,000 to $102,000 per year. Eligible candidates may also participate in a bonus program.
Additional total rewards may include paid vacation, up to $4,000 annually for mental health support benefits, a $1,300 flexible benefit spending account, Deloitte Days (firm-wide closures), dedicated Development and Innovation Days for learning, flexible work arrangements, and a hybrid work structure.
