About the role
Aurecon is looking for an experienced Associate Planner to join its Auckland team, with a focus on infrastructure work and consenting for water-related projects under New Zealand law. The role sits within a long-established design, engineering, and advisory business known for placing sustainability and technical quality at the centre of its work.
Key responsibilities
- Offer practical planning guidance and technical input to help secure resource consents and approvals for clients as part of a planning team.
- Work closely with clients, contractors, and regulators to set project scope, deliverables, and schedules, then help deliver against those commitments.
- Draft, assess, and sign off resource consent applications and the technical material that supports them.
- Make sure project delivery aligns with all applicable legislation and internal company standards.
- Contribute as a senior team member in the New Zealand Environment and Planning group by coaching less experienced planners and helping improve team processes.
- Assist with budgeting, planning resourcing, managing risks, and business development, including building client relationships and helping secure new work.
What you should bring
- A bachelor’s qualification in planning, or an equivalent background.
- Full or associate membership with the New Zealand Planning Institute, or a comparable professional affiliation.
- At least 10 years of relevant New Zealand planning experience, particularly in the three waters sector.
- Well-developed communication, leadership, stakeholder engagement, and problem-solving abilities.
- A collaborative mindset, a positive approach, and a willingness to support and mentor junior planners.
