About the organisation
Cera is a major UK HealthTech business and one of Europe’s fastest-growing companies. It uses preventative technology and AI to move care from hospitals into people’s homes, delivering care, nursing, telehealth and repeat prescription services. Its AI-driven tools are designed to anticipate more than 80% of hospital admissions and 83% of falls ahead of time, supporting a frontline network of nearly 10,000 carers and nurses. The company carries out around 2 million home healthcare visits each month and uses data gathered during these visits to build one of the world’s largest technology-enabled home healthcare datasets.
About the opportunity
This permanent, 40-hour role is based in Colchester with a hybrid working arrangement. The Credit Controller will join an experienced team responsible for recovering outstanding debt across a portfolio of Local Authority, ICB and Private Client accounts. The work requires adapting credit control methods to suit different customer types, including local authorities, the NHS and private clients. The team partners closely with the Invoicing Team to ensure account issues are handled quickly, consistently and professionally, while supporting the broader Finance and Operations functions.
Key responsibilities
- Engage directly with Local Authorities, NHS contacts, private clients and their relatives or nominated representatives by phone, email and letter to resolve issues and recover both current and overdue balances.
- Prepare credit notes and related revised invoices, ensuring each adjustment is backed by approved credit note requests.
- Collaborate with Operations and Invoicing colleagues to resolve queries linked to unpaid invoices or contracts so that debt recovery can progress smoothly.
- Reconcile sales ledger balances for every account within the assigned portfolio.
- Track unallocated receipts to make sure payments are assigned promptly and correctly.
- Create and maintain Direct Debit mandates for private clients in the portfolio.
- Process card payments for private clients.
- Provide regular updates to Operational Managers and Directors on significant account matters.
- Work toward KPIs focused on improving cash collection, reducing aged debt and minimising write-offs.
- Escalate issues quickly to the Line Manager and follow through until they are resolved efficiently.
- Support annual audits by supplying evidence and documentation requested by external auditors.
Experience and qualifications
The role calls for a strong credit control background and the ability to communicate confidently with internal and external stakeholders at all levels. Applicants should have GCSEs, including English and Maths, plus A Levels or equivalent qualifications. A minimum of 3 years’ credit control experience is required. Strong reconciliation ability, intermediate Excel knowledge, experience using accountancy software, and a conscientious approach with excellent attention to detail are all essential. The role also requires a collaborative working style and clear spoken and written communication.
Desirable experience
Useful additional experience includes AAT study or qualification progress, previous work in social care credit control or finance, experience with NetSuite, familiarity with time management and billing systems, and use of Google tools.
Culture and inclusion
Cera promotes a carer-first culture and places strong emphasis on diversity, inclusion and well-being. The organisation encourages applications from people of all backgrounds, including women, people from culturally diverse communities and people with disabilities. It aims to create a workplace where individuality is respected and people feel confident expressing who they are.
