Role overview
An established hardware and appliance superstore in Athlone is seeking a seasoned General Manager to oversee all daily activity across the shop floor, warehouse, and expanding online operation. This is a senior, hands-on leadership position for someone who can keep the business running efficiently, support strong sales performance, and build a capable team.
The store operates under both the Topline and Euronics brands. In this role, you will work directly with the directors and take responsibility for staffing, supplier relations, pricing, customer experience, compliance, and overall profitability.
This position is based in-store at Shannon Retail Park, Athlone, and is permanent, full-time, with a minimum commitment of 40 hours each week. The schedule does not include Sunday trading or late evening work, offering a notably better work-life balance than many retail management roles.

Operational leadership
- Take charge of the store’s day-to-day running and ensure operations remain smooth, efficient, and commercially effective.
- Manage activity across both the retail shop floor and warehouse.
- Build rotas and staff schedules around trading needs.
- Serve as key holder for store opening and closing responsibilities.
- Oversee maintenance, facilities requirements, equipment care, and routine safety checks.
Sales, buying, and commercial management
- Drive sales performance and work toward agreed targets.
- Manage purchasing activity, with a primary focus on the Euronics side of the business.
- Set pricing and maintain commercially sound margins.
- Negotiate with suppliers and strengthen vendor relationships.
- Oversee the contribution of the online business to total sales.
Team leadership
- Lead, support, and develop staff to deliver excellent service and consistent standards.
- Provide direct oversight to the Assistant Manager and Team Leaders.
- Manage recruitment and termination processes in collaboration with HR, ensuring compliance.
- Coordinate training and performance management across the team.
Finance, admin, and reporting
- Monitor cash handling and maintain strong controls.
- Work closely with the Admin and Accounts teams.
- Operate within budgets, keep costs under control, and contribute to profit and loss performance.
- Support the directors with strategy, updates, and reporting.
Customer care and compliance
- Handle customer problems quickly, professionally, and effectively.
- Maintain health and safety standards throughout the store.
- Carry out or supervise regular safety inspections.
Experience and knowledge required
The ideal candidate will bring prior experience in a General Manager, Operations Manager, or other senior retail leadership position. Strong people leadership, operational oversight, financial awareness, and customer service focus are essential. Experience in the appliance, electrical, or hardware retail sector would be an advantage, as would familiarity with EPOS systems and online order processes.
What the employer offers
Salary: €50,000 to €60,000 per year, depending on experience.
